METRO Provides Update to Chamber
|
|
Dolores Roybal Salterelli, Project Manager, and Mark Dierking, Community Relations Manager
Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, provided details on the Metro C (Green) Line Extension at last week’s Government Affairs Policy meeting. Metro has a plan for better transit in LA County -— which includes the Green Line Extension to Torrance Project. This project is an extension of light rail along a four-mile segment of the Harbor Subdivision Corridor from the existing Redondo Beach Marine Station to the proposed Regional Transit Center (RTC) in Torrance, served by the Metro Green and Crenshaw/LAX Lines.
This extension will provide an alternative to crowded I-405 freeway and better connect southwestern LA County into the regional rail network through connections to the Metro A (Blue) and E (Expo) Lines and future LAX/Crenshaw Transit project. The project is anticipated to be completed by 2033.
The Green Line Extension to Torrance is funded by Measure M and Measure R, both a half-cent sales tax that funds a number of transportation projects/programs. Under both Measures, the project received a combined $891 million.
Project goals include improving mobility in the South Bay by introducing reliable and high-frequency transit service, enhancing the regional transit network by providing more direct connections from South Bay to regional destinations, and encouraging more people to ride transit, reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
The next meeting of the Chamber’s Government Affairs Policy (GAP) will be February 11th at 12 noon. Register now!

Cal/OSHA Revises Guidance on COVID-19 Emergency Temporary Standards
|
|
Last year, California’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) approved emergency COVID-19 temporary standards, which became effective and enforceable on November 30, 2020.
Under the standards, employers needed to take certain actions to safeguard the workplace from COVID-19, like creating and implementing a written COVID-19 prevention plan, planning to address and combat outbreaks, and following rules regarding employer-provided housing and transportation. On December 1, 2020, Cal/OSHA published guidance to help employers navigate the complex regulations, but employers were still left with many questions. On January 8, 2021, Cal/OSHA revised their guidance to give employers more clarity on their testing obligations, paying employees who are excluded from the workplace and how Cal/OSHA will start enforcing these standards. The COVID-19 vaccine will be available to everyone, regardless of gender, age, race or creed, and it will be free of charge. It will be offered to different groups in phases. LA County is actively vaccinating Phase 1A: healthcare workers, residents in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), and is estimated to start vaccinations for Phase 1B all people over 65 years old in early February.
The County is opening five mass vaccination sites to ramp up vaccination of healthcare workers starting Tuesday, January 19th, including Six Flags Magic Mountain, the Pomona Fairplex, the Forum in Inglewood, Cal State Northridge, and the LA County Office of Education in Downey. This is in addition to the Dodger Stadium vaccination site launched Friday January 15. These large-scale vaccination sites are going to help massively increase the capacity to vaccinate people quickly and efficiently.
Beware of scammers. Look out for these COVID-19 vaccine red flags:
• Someone offers to move you into an earlier group to get the vaccine for a fee.
• Someone tries to sell you a place on a COVID vaccine waiting list. There is no “vaccine waiting list”.
• Someone on the street, online, on social media, or knocking on your door tries to sell you a shot of vaccine.
Visit VaccinateLACounty.com for the latest information on COVID-19 vaccines and to find out if you are currently eligible to receive one.
