Executive Director's Notes

By Franҫoise Rhodes

This past season was a challenging one for not just our desert region but for all of them. However during this time new marketing avenues have popped up throughout the area showing the resiliency of Borrego Springs.

With all of this excitement some have asked “What does the Chamber do?”  The U.S. Chamber of Commerce replies with “A Chamber of Commerce is a private, membership-based network of local businesses that works to promote, support, and protect the economic interests of its members and community.” Simple enough, but in other words we market the community, businesses and the entire area to the world, near and far. Because Borrego Springs is such a unique destination, we have resources to offer this information to locals, visitors, potential travelers, business owners, homeowners, outdoor enthusiast, those who love small town living and more. In a sense, for an annual membership fee, members are marketed year round via the website, social media, direct calls, print, emails, Chamber visitors, and yes even letters.

Promoting sustainability and economic growth is the key for most Chambers, but in Borrego Springs, since there are no government offices the Chamber becomes the wherewithal for everything. We give out information about government departments for building codes, permits etc. We are called regarding wildlife issues, police and medical issues, road work, shoes hanging from powerlines, SDGE complaints, basically you name it and we are called about it, and of course local business information. Probably the call that never ceases to amaze us is after a rain we’ll get calls to see if the flowers are blooming that very next day.

The Chamber Team is very proud of what we do, and will continue to promote Borrego Springs through digital, print, television and organizations that promote tourism all while supporting our local media outlets.

I could go on and on, but I think this is a good start. At the Chamber we’ll answer or return every call, email and text. If you have something you’d like to say directly to me, I’m happy to answer. Our team is eager to assist in every way and encourage you to stop by and see for yourself what the Chamber is all about. There’s just a few things we can’t do, and that is predict when the wild flowers will bloom or exactly where you can see the bighorn sheep!

Be a Festival Volunteer!

Please contact the Chamber at 760-767-5555 or email me at borregochamberdirector@gmail.com if you'd like to help and we'll pass your info on to Joy McBride.

Undisclosed location:-)

Many of the streets in Borrego Springs are named after the brands

(used on branding irons) of past ranches in the area.

Can you name this brand?

Congratulations Richard Gary

Answer: San Rafael Road

(BTW Richard searched way back to 2023 Chamber emails where he found the answer, now that is impressive!)

Borrego Community Cleanup

Borrego's community clean-up is held the first Saturday of every month, commencing at The Circle and fanning out to nearby areas either on foot or by car to pick up litter. The Chamber provides the bags and pickers;

all you need to do is bring yourself.

The October clean up on October 3rd, will meet at Christmas Circle at 7am. With the continued hot weather, we'll be starting early.

Hopefully in November the regular schedule can resume,

call Marcy Yates, (760) 767-4287 for more information.
