The California Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual summit yesterday for business and local chamber of commerce leaders from throughout the state. The sold out half-day summit preceded this morning’s Host Breakfast, which featured speakers including Governor Edmund G. Brown. The legislative summit featured political insiders and CalChamber policy advocates who spoke about election year politics and state policy issues. CalChamber President and CEO Allan Zaremberg, opened the program with a straight talk about priority business issues.

The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce was one of 29 chambers to receive the highly coveted 2018 President’s Circle Award.
Shafer Named Small Business Advocate of the Year
Michael Shafer, owner of the Depot Restaurant, has been named Small Business Advocate of the Year by the California Chamber of Commerce (CalChamber) at its annual Legislative Summit.

Each year since 1996, the CalChamber has recognized several small business owners who have done an exceptional job with their local, state and national advocacy efforts on behalf of small business.

The criterion used in the selection process include taking leadership roles in or working on federal, state or local ballot measures, testifying before state Legislature and representing a local Chamber of Commerce before government.

Shafer has continually mentored business owners who make up the Downtown Torrance business community, he constantly rallies behind businesses throughout the City to become active and vocal in respect to job creation and he has repeatedly encouraged business owners to go before legislative bodies in support of other businesses or key issues facing business.
