Larry Halvorsen (right) and Heidi Cunningham (left) of Express Employment Professionals.
Donna visits Express Employment Professionals
As I entered Express Employment Professionals in Torrance, I was greeted by owner Larry Halvorsen. Halvorsen, a very involved chamber member, pointed out various posters on the wall and the meaning behind each of them and provided a tour of the spacious office.
Express Employment Professionals is a leading staffing provider in the U.S., Canada and South Africa. Founded in 1983, Express today employs 400,000 people across nearly 700 franchise locations worldwide. Halvorsen explained that the long-term goal is at the heart of the company's vision, to help as many people as possible find good jobs by helping as many clients as possible find good people.

South Bay Legislators Introduce TACC-Supported Bills
South Bay Legislators Benjamin Allen (26th State Senate District) and David Hadley (66th State Assembly District) have each introduced bills that the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce has taken fast action to support. Help us get these bills passed in Sacramento!

SB 1215 (Allen). Establishes the California Aerospace Commission, uniting a geographically diverse group of leaders from a variety of aerospace-related fields to pursue the objective of making California the undisputed worldwide epicenter of commercial, academic, and government-related aerospace activity. Take Action!

SB 933 (Allen). Establishes the California Teacher Corps program, which would provide matching grants to local school districts to create or expand teacher residency programs in which the funds can be used to pay for master teacher stipends, stipends and tuition for residents, and costs of mentoring and induction. Take Action!

AB 2026 (Hadley). Requires all plaintiffs or petitioners who sue under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) to include an affidavit identifying every person or entity who makes a monetary contribution of $1,000 or more to fund the litigation. This will effectively stop anonymous plaintiffs from suing under CEQA, improving a grossly misused environmental protection law that has been a grave hindrance for economic development in California. Take Action!
Donna Duperron, President and CEO, attended the BizFed Leadership Roundtable with Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia last Thursday. Mayor Garcia discussed minimum wage, goods movement and local and regional economic development.
The TACC is Leading the Way with the BizFed Annual Survey - Calling all Members to Contribute
The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC) has partnered with the Los Angeles County Business Federation (BizFed) to encourage businesses and nonprofit organizations to complete the 2016 BizFed Pulse Poll. BizFed's annual poll is your chance to communicate what's helping or hurting your business. The data you submit will provide invaluable information and analysis that the Chamber needs to focus its advocacy efforts behind TACC members' priority concerns.
The deadline for the survey is next Friday, March 31. At the end of the survey, please click the box next to Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce to let BizFed know you'd like to be counted towards TACC's response count. Thank you!

What makes your business unique?
Every member of the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce appears in the business listings in the Torrance Magazine & Resource Guide, but how will you stand out from the crowd? Ad space is still available to give your business the visibility it deserves. Purchasing an ad also gives you space to write an article and share your expertise.
Contact Jeanne Garrison at (310) 317-9730 or at [email protected] to find out more about ad space.
This year's issue will release in June.

Keeping Up with Leadership Torrance
Last month, Leadership Torrance held their 'Skills Day' at Destination:Art in Old Torrance. The program, created and facilitated by Theresa Mack, focused on identifying leadership styles, strengthening communication skills, self and professional development, and team building exercises. The flex-space was beautiful, and accommodated our hands-on approach for the day, and helped the creative juices flow!
