For those of you who attended any of the many events associated with the Armed Forces Day Celebration this past weekend, I know you would agree with me when I say, "I am so proud to live in the City of Torrance." This experience truly instills a respect for country and demonstrates appreciation for the sacrifices the men and women of the armed forces have made to secure our freedoms.
The City of Torrance is one of the few cities in the nation designated by the U.S. Department of Defense to host an Armed Forces Day celebration with the Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade as a highlight. The Parade has the distinction of being the nation's longest running military parade sponsored by any city.

TACC Takes Annual Advocacy Trip to Sacramento
|
A TACC delegation traveled to Sacramento this past week to advocate for members' interests at the state capitol. The delegation met with several South Bay legislators and staff representatives to discuss legislative proposals up for consideration. The visit was timely as the Legislature is rapidly moving towards the House of Origin deadline, which occurs on June 3rd and requires for all bills to be passed out of the house in which they were introduced. |

Keeping up with Leadership Torrance
|
Recently, PTN was visited by Leadership Torrance (LT).
During their visit to PTN, the group learned about pediatric healthcare, the non-profit model that PTN created 20 years ago, as well as their challenges and successes.
One of the LT 2016 participants was Russell Akiyama, owner of Sunflower Farms Nursery. Russell visited PTN a couple of months ago and knew he wanted to get involved. During his visit, he saw an empty planter box in the PTN playground. Working with the PTN Facilities team, he created a Sensory Garden for the staff and children to enjoy. Not only did Russell donate some of the plants, but he donated his time to create and plant the garden. The garden features a variety of plants that appeal to almost every sense. Russell proudly explained how he had assembled the garden to his LT class.
LT is a Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored program for emerging leaders who want to learn more about Torrance and the surrounding communities. The six month program introduces the participants to various aspects of city, county and state communities, businesses and government agencies.
