Out & About
with TACC President & CEO Donna Duperron
Donna visits Brookdale South Bay
As I entered Brookdale South Bay, I was greeted by Olga Kirksey, Executive Director and Jeanne Hagmaier, Marketing Manager. This was not my first visit to Brookdale South Bay; I continue to be inspired by the beautiful lobby and the gracious hospitality of residents who greet me.
Brookdale South Bay offers spacious apartments, elegant common areas and numerous services. 'Brookdale Celebrates' brings together inspired dining and vibrant lifestyle activities in a common venue for all residents. Each month residents enjoy themed experiences, special events, group activities that spotlight different cultures and cuisines. I enjoyed listening to information about the recent speed dating activity and the Concerts in the Park series.

Welcoming the 2016-2017 Board of Directors
Last week's Business Awards Celebration was preceded by the installation of the 2016-2017 Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
Pictured below, incoming Chairman of the Board Jonathan Beutler (Sunrider International) presents Outgoing Chairwoman Jac Folkert (UCLA Health) with honors. Jac's term as chair will end June 30th and Jonathan's will begin July 1st.

The Chamber staff and Board thanks Jac for her tremendous leadership and service to the business community this past year, and welcomes Jonathan as he steps into the role to keep the momentum of the past few years going strong.

Stuff the Bus!
Torrance Chamber of Commerce members are invited to participate in the 2 nd annual "Stuff the Bus" event hosted by Assemblyman David Hadley, who represents a portion of the Los Angeles Unified School District and Torrance Unified School District.
Through the help of community partners, last year's Stuff the Bus effort successfully raised between $17-18 thousand in school supplies to benefit students and teachers in the LAUSD. This year's effort will benefit LAUSD and Torrance USD.
The six-week Stuff the Bus donation drive will launch on June 17 th . Community members may donate school supplies for all grade levels (notebooks, pens, pencils, paper, crayons, tissue, etc.).
A donation bin will be located in the lobby area of the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce offices (3400 Torrance Blvd, Suite 100, Torrance) throughout the duration of the Stuff the Bus drive.
The supply drive will culminate in a finale event to be held on July 29 th at Walmart, 22015 Hawthorne Blvd, in Torrance.
Keeping up with Leadership Torrance
On Saturday June 4, 2016, with the aid of Boy Scout Troop #851, Leadership Torrance embarked on a community project to install a weed barrier along the northern fence bordering the California Native Plant Garden at the Madrona Marsh Nature Center. Non-native weeds and seeds encroaching into the California Native Plant garden posed a concern and potential threat to the integrity and sustainability of the garden space and plant species.
This project was a team building experience that brought the leadership skills acquired over the past 6 months into actual practice. The Leadership Torrance Program has inspired its participants through the amazing opportunities it has fostered within the community.
The Leadership Torrance class project was a great opportunity to encourage community pride, work and lead as a team, build lasting relationships within the group, and make a lasting contribution to the community. A fun and fulfilled day was enjoyed by everyone.

The Leadership Torrance 2016 cohort will be graduating from the program tomorrow, June 16.
