Smile!
The Out and About columns in Chamber Weekly have occurred since June of 2014. Throughout this time, I have had the privilege and the honor to meet with business owners to discuss the economic vitality of our community. This past week, I was welcomed by Steve Coy, owner of CL!X Portrait Studio South Bay. In previous columns, I wrote about the business that I was visiting and this column will be no different. However, during this visit I was provided with materials illustrating how difficult it is to sometimes be a small business owner and that type of information is very relevant to a Chamber of Commerce. For that I was grateful.
Steve and I sat down in his office which was both orderly and welcoming. He had prepared graphs which illustrated how his business base has changed. Steve spoke about the digital age and how smart phones make the process of taking photographs so accessible. He also commented on the continuing effort to remain relevant through marketing, networking and advertising.
CL!X Portrait Studio South Bay provides on-location event photography, corporate head shots, high school senior and family portraits. This location offers a series of sets and choices of portrait backgrounds. Additionally, a corner in the studio is set up to welcome children by providing family friendly videos, books and toys.
Steve and his friendly staff walked me through the painless process of a corporate headshot from prepping, to selecting a backdrop, to positioning for the headshot. Within minutes, I was viewing the photograph on a computer and recommending items to be touched up.
This visit provided the opportunity to learn, not only about CL!X Portrait Studio South Bay, but about the challenges often faced by our small business owners. The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce thanks CL!X for being a valued member. We appreciate your commitment to our community.

Supervisor Don Knabe to Give Farewell Address at Lunch with Our Leader
LA County Supervisor Don Knabe (4th District)
On February 10th, long-time County of Los Angeles Fourth District Supervisor Don Knabe will give his farewell address to the Torrance business community during the Torrance Chamber's annual Lunch with Our Leader event. Throughout his tenure on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors (LACBOS), which began in the late 1990's, Supervisor Knabe has worked to champion the issue of child sex trafficking, lead critical transportation efforts, support countless youth art programs and other charities, advocate for environmental issues, invest in libraries throughout the County, address important business issues in his district, and protect the innocent and vulnerable children in Los Angeles County through the establishment of the Safe Surrender program. The Torrance Chamber will truly miss Supervisor Knabe once his LACBOS term expires later this year.
