Out & About
with TACC President & CEO Donna Duperron
Mandy Schulz, Patrick Schulz, Jason Kolb and Allison Kolb
Donna visits Scholb Premium Ales
Scholb Premium Ales has a remarkable story behind the name, as well as a remarkable story behind the business partnership. The wives of Scholb first met in 2008 when their children were taking an art class in Redondo Beach. It didn't take long for them to become friends, and their husbands quickly followed suit. Together, the families have formed a strong team with a varied and complimentary skill set. The name Scholb is derived from the first three letters of two of the owners and "olb" is the last three letters of the other two owners. Patrick Schulz is the head brewer; Mandy Schulz oversees advertising and customer relations; Jason Kolb is the chief financial officer and operations manager and Allison Kolb is the chief executive officer.

What Chamber members need to know now about the CA minimum wage hike
California is the first state in the nation to commit to raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour statewide. Employers need to prepare for the minimum wage increase and examine other pay practices that might be implicated by the hike.

L.A. Council Passes Paid Sick Leave Policy
The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday voted overwhelmingly to proceed with crafting an ordinance requiring all employers in the city to provide six days of paid sick leave a year to their workers, three days more than mandated under state law.
"Paid sick leave means a world of difference to working people and their families," L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti said in a statement following the vote. "That's why it is important for L.A. to not just comply with state law, but take it a step further on behalf of our people."

Businesses should be familiar with California's unclaimed property law
Whether you are starting a business, relocating, expanding, or closing, it is important to regularly review your books and records to determine if your business holds any property that is considered inactive. Such items may be reportable to the State Controller as unclaimed property.
The Outreach and Compliance Unit of the State Controller's Unclaimed Property Division provides business education and resources to assist in the reporting process. For one-on-one assistance, please call (916) 464-6088 or email [email protected].
