The Labor Department wants to institute a new test to determine if workers should be classified as employees or independent contractors. It could lead to confusion — and possible legal ramifications including “penalties, fines, fees, and back taxes,” Bradley noted. The Chamber is considering legal action to stop this regulation.

BUSINESS COMMUNITY PUSHES BACK AGAINST ACA REPEAL
Arizona's business community sent a letter to lawmakers last week with nearly 50 signing organizations that touts the need to continue the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA). The ACA is up for continuation this year and has been under fire recently for marketing the state to company CEO and business owners. Attorney General Kris Mayes recently called into question the public benefit of ACA "CEO Forums." In addition, several State Senators introduced legislation to eliminate the ACA. However, State Representative David Livingston introduced a bill to continue the ACA until 2029
GOVERNOR RELEASES EXECUTIVE BUDGET
Governor Hobbs released her Executive Budget last Friday afternoon. The Executive Budget serves as a guide for priorities the governor would like to see included in the budget for fiscal year 2024/2025 (“FY 2025”). It also serves as the starting point for legislative discussions on appropriations for the upcoming year, which begins on July 1, 2024.
