Chamber Advocacy Pays Off
Earlier in June the Altona & District Chamber of Commerce joined other Chambers across Canada to lobby the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, the Honourable Sean Fraser, to extend the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot which is scheduled to end in October, 2022, for another three years. We were the second of 13 Chambers to sign.
This program enables smaller communities across Canada to enhance their economic, social and demographic vitality by targeting skilled foreign workers who want to live in small communities. This program is administered locally by SEED and as Executive Director Stephanie Harris recently reported, 153 people have come to Altona through this program so far.
Good news! This past week we received word that the Minister will be making an announcement within the next 3 months that RNIP will not only be extended but for some pilots, the program may become permanent.
Downtown Summer Kick Off
Wow! Wasn't that a PARTY! it was so great to get together as a Community again and have fun with our whole family? Thank you to Wonder Shows, Rhineland Car, GoldenWest Radio, Altona Mall, Deandra Braun, Sarah Braun and her crafters in the Mall, Ang's Pizza and Sun Valley Co-op for promoting and participating in this fun Chamber of Commerce Event.

WISE KidNetic Energy STEM Camp back in Altona
Kids from ages 9 to 12 are invited to come to a fun summer STEM camp at the Altona Curling Club. This day camp runs from July 25 to 29 and participants will explore various science themes like Extreme Engineering, Paleontology, Forensics, Gaming and Sports Science. Wonder Shows Midway brings excitement
Custom Shredding Services Available
Blue Sky Opportunities has always provided custom shredding services and are now offering a greater capacity. All shredding should be dropped off at the new Recycling Shop to be weighed and then brought to their non-profit day program for processing. They also provide confidential shredding and ensure that it is secured and shredded only by non-readers.
Price is: up to 50 lbs - $10 and over 50 lbs - .20 per pound.
