There is certainly a lot going on in Oxnard! In fact, there is so much happening we have invited three people to speak at the State of the City Address on June 22. In addition to Mayor Tim Flynn, Interim City Manager Scott Whitney will update us on what he has been covering and Development Services Director Ashley Golden will provide a report on current and future development projects in the city.

Recognition for Excellence in Business Advocacy, Helping Members Comply with Labor Laws

The California Chamber of Commerce has named 28 local chambers of commerce to receive the 2018 President’s Circle Award.

The award, first presented in 2009, recognizes chambers for excellence in business advocacy and helping their members comply with California employment laws. Representatives of the President’s Circle chambers were honored May 23 during the CalChamber Capitol Summit in Sacramento.

EDC-VC RECEIVES $450,000 TO HELP BUSINESSES
IMPACTED BY THOMAS FIRE

The Gene Haas Foundation and Pacific Western Bank Donations Launch Loan Fund
The Economic Development Collaborative-Ventura County recently received contributions from the Gene Haas Foundation and Pacific Western Bank to establish a loan fund in response to the Thomas fire and subsequent mudslides.

5 THINGS WE DID FOR YOU IN THE PAST WEEK
1.Represented Oxnard Chamber members at a meeting of the Ventura County Business Council.

2.Met with representatives of industrial businesses in Oxnard regarding a proposed change to local discharge limits into the wastewater system.

3.Met with a new senior care facility opening soon in Oxnard.

4.Held a Board of Directors meeting where the group took positions on the Affordable Housing Act, funding of the CSU system, and a proposed Cal Fire training facility in Ventura County. (Busy meeting!!)

5.Met with city staff and asked for a time extension of item #2 above, which was granted. This will allow the Chamber to assist with the outreach to affected businesses and for those companies to plan for changes.

JOB KILLER UPDATE: FIVE BILLS PASS TO SECOND HOUSE
Friday was the deadline for bills to pass the house in which they were introduced. Only five job killer bills subject to the first house deadline have passed to the second house. A bill dealing with wage statement penalties was stopped on the Assembly Floor.
