Chamber Takes Neutral Position on Measure A | | |
After extensive review and discussion, the Chamber Board of Directors has voted to remain neutral on Measure A, the proposed five-year, five-eighths cent sales tax intended to help fill funding gaps in the county’s public hospital system created by H.R. 1.
This decision reflects our responsibility to represent the full breadth of San Jose’s business and greater community. We heard compelling perspectives both in support of the measure—as an important investment in the services provided by the Santa Clara Health & Hospital system—and in opposition—centered on cost to business and consumer and the delay in establishing an oversight committee to determine how dollars would be used, which was not resolved in time for our vote.
Looking ahead, the Chamber will engage our Health Care Advisory Group to focus on the needs of providers and the overall health of our community.
| | Chamber Supports Little Italy Way Street Renaming | | The San Jose Chamber of Commerce was proud to renaming a section of North Almaden Boulevard to Little Italy Way. The street renaming is one of several strategies the City of San Jose is taking to reimagine our downtown core and stitch districts together to create a more connected, active area. Naming streets and public spaces is more than symbolic—it’s placemaking. We look forward to continuing to support efforts to reimagine our downtown. | | Sign-on to Letter for Federal Procurement Reform | | The San Jose Chamber of Commerce joined on a coalition letter to support three critical provisions currently in H.R. 3838: 1) increasing the Micro-Purchase Threshold (MPT) from $10,000 to $25,000; 2) enabling the Commercial Best Practice of Permitting Advance Payments; and 3) raising the Simplified Acquisition Threshold (SAT) from $250,000 to $500,000. These reforms would significantly enhance the federal government's ability to efficiently procure innovative technologies and services, increase opportunities for small businesses, and improve disaster response. | | Member Exclusive: 10/2 Meet D3 Councilmember Anthony Tordillos | | | | |
