Economic Dev/Advocacy Edition
A new community initiative!
****We’re excited to announce the creation of ChamberCARES!
****It’s a community outreach initiative of the Chamber and our Education Foundation. It was created by the Membership Mentors and Outreach Board (MMOB) to foster active engagement of the business membership in support of a cause, program or service provided by a member non-profit organization.
****How it Works - Each year, a program and/or project will be adopted from requests received by Chamber member non-profit organizations. The Chamber of Board of Directors will oversee the ChamberCARES selection process and manage all its activities.
****Applications for this inaugural year will be distributed this month. The 2021 beneficiary will be decided by the Board at its April 27 meeting.
****Nate Cocco, of State Farm Team Cocco, is Chamber Board Chairman-Elect and founding member of the MMOB. “This Chamber has many generous and loyal businesses that have seen us through tough times like we’re experiencing now,” he said. “With ChamberCARES we hope to harness the collective giving power of the membership to meet specific community needs.”

Tampa Bay COVID Update! March 8, 2021
The COVID-19 Regional Re-Opening Dashboard tracks the critical and official public health metrics that guide Tampa Bay residents and policymakers to safely re-open our economy.
It’s produced by the Tampa Bay Partnership.

Case growth rates in Tampa Bay decreased this past week, to 1,049 per day over the 14-day period ending March 7, versus the 1,178 reported the prior week. At 5.76%, Tampa Bay's positive testing rate over the past week remains below the 10% threshold outlined in state and federal re-opening guidelines, and decreased from last week’s rate of 5.88%. Statewide, the positive testing rate was also below the 10% threshold and fell from 5.85% to 5.59%. The 7-day rolling average of Tampa Bay patients hospitalized with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19 decreased by 7.9% in the past week and, as of Sunday, 730 such patients were hospitalized.
Airport Monthly Update
Many experts consider a 5% positivity rate to be the threshold for community spread of the virus, so getting and staying below that number is a major goal for state health officials.
Despite some courts throughout Florida resuming jury trials, the backlog of pending cases continues to grow statewide. According to the Florida Trial Court Budget Commission's latest figures, the judicial logjam has grown to an estimated 1.14 million.
Digital tools allow businesses to reach their customers, make connections and sell their products during a time where lockdowns and social-distancing efforts have become a reality.
The Florida House on Friday passed a bill that would shield businesses from lawsuits accusing them negligently spreading COVID-19.
Miami, what New Yorkers like to call the Sixth Borough, has seen a stream of New York City-based restaurants open around the county in the last two months.
