ChamberNEWS February 2021

As I begin to write this, it’s a cold January day with a forecast of a significant snowstorm. Did I ever tell you I hate winter?
Almost universally we wanted the year 2020 to end. And now January 2021 is almost over. The election and the inauguration are over, but Covid is not. We still need to be cautious, wear a mask, wash our hands and avoid big crowds. The vaccines are here but supply is still limited.
But wait! Is that a glimmer of light I see on the horizon? Somehow, most businesses have survived. The government has promised additional stimulus that even includes non-profits like Chambers of Commerce.
Whatever the Groundhog says.........

Hello! January was a very busy and productive month at the Chamber. Even though 2021 is only one month old, it is clear that this year is moving toward being closer to what we may consider normal. Our conference room is, once again, open for in-person (and virtual) meetings, ribbon cuttings are being scheduled, and we are carefully and cautiously considering options for planning events.
Please help us welcome the following new Chamber members:.......

Meet Lesley Webster!
Hi, I’m Lesley Webster, your new CVB Director, and I thought I’d introduce myself a little. I come from a background in non-profit management (a Christian camp and two different YMCAs), and community programming. My son, daughter-in-love, and almost 2-year old granddaughter live in Davenport, while the rest of my family is scattered around the globe.
I’ve been in the Midwest my entire adult life and lived near the Mississippi for most of it. I’m excited......

Shred-Eze is Clinton’s only document destruction company. Besides document destruction we also destroy hard drives, thumb drives and CDs/DVDs. Our standard charges for document destruction is $1/lb. less any coupons. Volume discounts are available for bulk or repeat users. We also have free secure totes to use to collect your documents. Destruction of hard drives are $10 each but also a discount is available for volume orders. We also have free pickup and delivery of our totes and as always, no contracts! These services are not only for businesses but for personal/home use as well.
Shred-Eze is saying Thank You to the community for helping us grow by announcing that we are offering, for a limited time, to those who file a 1040EZ or have a tax return with 5 pages or less, not counting W-2’s, a free shredding of their old returns that no longer needs to be retained. Please refer to a tax accountant, tax advisor or the IRS or their website irs.gov. Each person’s retention is different and Shred-Eze is not a tax pro so we cannot give any guidance. Stop on in and we will have a secured tote with a sign to deposit your return for shredding. Please limit the number of returns per visit to 5 single IRS forms or one 5-page return.
This will expose those with simpler returns the importance of keeping their name safe and give them awareness with mail/items they receive that could jeopardize the safety of their identity. Also look for our coupon with the Clinton Herald’s monthly coupon edition. We will have coupons at some of the tax preparer offices in town. If your tax professional does not have the coupons, tell them to call Shred-Eze, (563) 219-6699 and have us setup a small display.

The Shop Where I Live platform is an e-commerce marketplace & lead generation platform that helps small businesses to easily sell online together. The goal is to showcase Chambers’ businesses to our communities and beyond. This is a partnership designed to help local small businesses sell online via a national platform and still have local community support. You’ll have your own shop within the platform to sell products, services, gift cards, virtual products, and more.
The Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce has invested in this site for our member businesses to be able to have access to sell online as an added benefit to your annual membership! You can list up to 25 products in your shop at no cost to you, with opportunities to upgrade as needed.
