Dianna Schuler, Business Services Manager for Business Employment
Skills Team, Inc. (BEST) wants to remind all Illinois businesses that the
minimum wage increases to $12.00 per hour beginning on January 1,
2022. Interestingly, laws about a maximum wage began back during 1349
when the Black Plague resulted in a labor shortage. King Edward the Third, set up something called Ordinance of Labourers that set a maximum wage to help with the labor shortage due to deaths from the Black Plague. The United States Federal Minimum Wage, created in 1938, was to set a minimum standard of living for employees. In Illinois, the minimum wage will gradually increase to $15.00 per hour slated for January 1, 2025. Business Employment Skills Team, Inc. (BEST, Inc.) is a federally-funded job and training program funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and provides services in Bureau, Carroll, Jo
Daviess, LaSalle, Lee, Ogle, Putnam, and Whiteside Counties. Eligibility for
programs and services based upon federal guidelines.

Support The Christ In The Wilderness
|
|
Surviving the events of this past year has required resilience. Resilience is the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties. Flexibility and the ability to “bounce back” may have helped you get through this past year; however, did you thrive? Did you change? Were the changes positive? How did you find peace with the changes and uncertainty? Going beyond just surviving, requires one to go inward to that quiet place of listening and non-judgment. Only there, can you see more clearly what is important and where to focus your energy? Only there, can you discern how to grow and flourish?
Not only does CITW provide a comfortable setting for retreatants to rest and refresh their bodies, but CITW also provides a safe, sacred space for retreatants to go inward and connect with their Source.
Beau S. shared his experience as a first-time retreatant at CITW:
I had heard of Christ in the Wilderness years ago, but when I finally came for a retreat in the Summer of 2020, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, I was most definitely feeling, weary, heavy-laden, and in need of rest.
An introvert by nature, and one for whom silence and solitude are essential nourishment, I found myself responsible for figuring out all the technology to keep the worship services going for the church I serve in Chicago, doing the same for a second church, and working each day in the same room as my spouse. Silence and solitude were at a premium and it seemed like my entire life took place in front of a screen...

New Employment Law Update For Employers In All Sizes
|
|
On December 17, 2021, in a 2-1 decision, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals dissolved the stay of OSHA’s Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) previously ordered by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. Therefore, OSHA’s ETS mandating workplace vaccination and testing on all private employers with 100 or more employees is back on. While the 6th Circuit did not address timing issues, the day after the decision was released, OSHA announced that it will not issue citations for non-compliance with any requirements of the ETS before January 10, 2022, and will not issue citations for noncompliance with the standard’s testing requirements before February 9, 2022 — so long as an employer is exercising reasonable, good faith efforts to come into compliance.
