UNDERSTANDING POOLED RENEWALS

April 1 marks the annual renewal of all Chambers Plan clients simultaneously. This happens because all of the firms across Canada are pooled together to stabilize rates and ensure that the risk is spread across more than 31,000 businesses just like yours.

Your health and dental rates will adjust to reflect claims usage and demographic changes. If your plan is fully pooled (typically less than 10 employees), you share the same renewal as everyone else with your benefit options. If your firm is partially pooled (typically more than 10 employees) your renewal will be calculated partially by the whole pool and partially by your claims. If your benefits are partially pooled, renewals are typically significantly better than typical traditional plans.

In addition to this newsletter from your Advisor's office, you can expect to receive a renewal newsletter from Chambers Plan by mail and e-mail. To view your new premiums, log in to my-benefits with your Administrator access and download the Employee Benefit and Premium Summary from the home page on March 1st.

EMPLOYEE MENTAL HEALTH

Demand for counselling and support services continues

Claims for prescription drugs, counselling services, and absences from work related to mental health concerns have continued to remain high following the pandemic.

In response to the ongoing need for mental health resources, Chambers Plan launched two new programs in 2022, built into the existing group benefit offering, with the focus on whole person, proactive care at the forefront.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO ENSURE EMPLOYEES ACCESS THE SUPPORT THEY NEED?

  • ensure you have the Employee Assistance Program included in your group benefits offering
  • access the supports for owners and managers available through your EAP or through Business Assistance Services if you think an employee is struggling
  • inform staff of the new Teladoc Mental Health Navigator service
  • share information about the myStrength app - free for employees
  • post brochures related to your group benefits in a common employee space - whether physical or virtual - as a reminder of the services included in the group benefits plan

Ask your advisor for more information about the mental support services you already have in place or adding an EAP to your benefit plan.

KEEPING DATA CURRENT
The importance of keeping employee information up-to-date
It is important that employee information is kept current with Chambers Plan because changes to income or family status may affect an employee's coverage and premiums. Renewal is a great time to double check your current enrollment.

*Overage dependents that don't provide proof of attending post-secondary will get removed from the plan, but the family's premiums don't always automatically adjust.
Check for:
  • Current salaries

  • Up-to-date enrollment (new hires/terminations)

  • Employees near or over 65 years old

  • Whether family status matches premiums*

ADDITIONAL COVERAGE

Plan options that can added to group benefit coverage

Chambers Plan offers a Health Spending Account option that can be added to your existing group benefit coverage. An HSA allows you to:

  • Top up extended health and dental coverage - to cover expenses not covered by the plan
  • Help employees plan for large medical bills- by accruing amounts in their HSA
  • Set a limit to how much can be claimed

An individual health crisis can involve on-going expenses not covered by disability or health benefits.

Chambers Plan offers comprehensive Critical Illness insurance for a low monthly premium. CI helps an employee meet the financial demands that often accompany a significant health change such as the cost of personal care, home retrofits or other personal expenses which are not covered by base insurance or LTD.

Book a call with your Advisor to discuss the comprehensive CI benefit that is available.
