Mansfield - The History Center will stage its own version of “March Madness” on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, March 16 & 17 at the History Center Museum located on North Main Street. The History Center’s Museum of Us will open its doors starting at noon and running to 4 p.m. on both days. On Saturday we will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Mansfield High School’s 1969 state basketball championship as well as other Mansfield sports championships. On Sunday afternoon we will honor this year’s NTL basketball championship win and 2018 Football NTL win.
The highlight of each afternoon will be at 2 p.m. with the cutting of a special-edition Championship Cake. Players, coaches, and support staff, including cheerleaders, will also have the opportunity to have their memories videotaped and made available in the museum archives for future generations.
Participants and guests will also have the opportunity to have photos taken standing next to the championship trophies as well as talk with players.
In addition to the 1969 and 2019 trophies, a large display of Mansfield High School and NP-Mansfield championship trophies from different decades will be on display along with other Tiger sports memorabilia. We have exhibits and trophies from every decade since the school started and nearly every sport.
Don’t miss the chance to be part of Mansfield High School Championship Weekend at the History Center’s Museum of Us at 61 North Main Street in Mansfield on March 16 and 17 from noon to 4 PM.
Our oldest trophy on display is the 1928-29 Roosevelt Trail League Basketball trophy. Ted Besanceney, who was later principal and coach, was on the team as was Eldridge Mudge whose son, Terry Mudge, was a coach to championship teams of girls track.

The 1969 PIAA Basketball State Championship was an event that Mansfield will never forget.
We celebrate the 50th anniversary of this proud achievement.
We will show video interviews with Rich Miller, Les Evans and Terry Mudge as well as our Mansfield Then and Now video show.
Terry Mudge talks about his seven years as coach of championship girls track teams.
