Unless otherwise noted, work will be restricted to the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

In observance of Memorial Day, crews will be out of the roadway starting Friday, May 23, by noon, with the exception of potential paving operations at the intersection of Main Street and Pine Street. Crews will be offsite starting at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, with construction activities resuming on Tuesday, May 27, at 7:00 a.m.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES & TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Pine Street (north) Main Street to Kilburn Street:

Main Street at Pine Street Intersection:

Work continues to reconstruct the intersection at Pine Street and Main Street. Next week, crews will continue removing sidewalk and curb and installing subsurface traffic signal equipment (bases, conduit, junction boxes, etc.). Crews will begin fine-grading the intersection in preparation for base paving operations anticipated to take place Thursday or Friday in advance of the Vermont City Marathon.

This intersection will remain under full intersection closure throughout the week. Pine Street between King Street and Main Street will remain open but restricted to local traffic only and accessible only from King Street. Businesses will remain open and accessible along Pine Street. Northbound vehicular traffic on Pine Street will be detoured at Maple Street. Northbound thru truck traffic will be detoured at Maple Street to Battery Street to College Street. Southbound traffic on Pine Street will be detoured at College Street to S. Champlain Street to Maple Street. Eastbound traffic on Main Street will be detoured at S. Champlain Street to College Street to S. Willard Street and westbound traffic on Main Street will be detoured at S. Union Street to College Street to Battery Street.

King Street at Pine Street Intersection:

Early next week, crews will continue working to install traffic signal conduit and other traffic signal elements at the intersection of King Street and Pine Street under lane closures with alternating one-way traffic. Starting mid-week, Burlington Electric Department will be working to relocate aerial electrical utilities at the intersection of King Street and Pine Street and along King Street to the east toward St. Paul Street. This work will be completed under lane closures with alternating one-way traffic and parking restrictions.

Pine Street – King Street to Maple Street:

Throughout the week, crews will begin to work on sidewalk and curb removal and replacement along Pine Street between King Street and Maple Street under intermittent lane closures with alternating one-way traffic. Pine Street between King Street and Maple Street will be restricted to local access only. Thru traffic will be detoured at Maple or King Streets. Pedestrians will be detoured to the open side of the roadway. Sidewalk and curb work across residential and business driveways will require short temporary driveway closures. Impacted properties will be notified directly in advance.

Maple Street at Pine Street Intersection:

The Burlington Electric Department will continue working to relocate aerial electrical utilities at the intersection of Maple Street and Pine Street through mid-week before moving to King Street under lane closures with alternating one-way traffic.

Pine Street at Howard Street:

Next Wednesday, S.D. Ireland is anticipated to return to the site to complete the installation of the bus shelters just south of the intersection of Pine Street at Howard Street. This work is part of the initial contract, which was postponed due to manufacturing delays. These activities will be completed predominantly outside of the roadway with instances of lane closures with alternating one-way traffic.

Off the Roadway along the Future Champlain Parkway Alignment:

Work continues along the future Champlain Parkway alignment between Home Avenue and I-189. Crews will continue installing the remaining drainage structures and pullboxes and grading the roadway surface in preparation for future paving activities. These activities will take place off the roadway with limited impact on traffic.

PROJECT LOCATION:

The Champlain Parkway Project spans a 2.8-mile area from the I-189 intersection with US 7 to Lakeside Avenue, and includes upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Main Street.
