TRAFFIC ALERT:

The intersection of Maple Street at Pine Street will be closed TOMORROW, Friday, August 15, between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM to allow crews to install traffic signal equipment. Intermittent closures will continue over the next several weeks. Additional information is provided below and will be included in supplemental notices as work progresses.

Pine Street between Maple Street and Kilburn Street will be restricted to local traffic only and accessible from the south. Pine Street between King Street and Maple Street will be restricted to local traffic only and accessible from the north. Businesses will remain open and residences will remain accessible.



All thru vehicular traffic, including trucks, will be detoured at College Street (southbound) and Kilburn Street (northbound) to St. Paul Street. Detour map below in the Construction Update below.

Traffic impact highlights for the Champlain Parkway Project for Monday, August 18, through Friday, August 22, are listed below:

• Main Street at Pine Street Intersection: Open to traffic. Potential lane restrictions throughout the week. Pedestrian detours will be in place.
• Pine Street – Main Street to King Street: Fully open.
• King Street at Pine Street Intersection: Open to traffic. Potential lane restrictions on Monday and Tuesday. Pedestrian detours will be in place.
• Pine Street – King Street to Maple Street: Fully open Monday and Tuesday. Open to local traffic only Wednesday through Friday. Accessible from the north.
• Maple Street at Pine Street Intersection: Partially closed on Monday and Tuesday. Maple Street and the northern leg of Pine Street will remain open. The southern leg of Pine Street will be fully closed during the daytime hours and reopened at night. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, the intersection will be fully closed during the daytime hours for fine grading and paving operations and will reopen at night.
• Pine Street – Maple Street to Kilburn Street: Open to local traffic only via Kilburn Street during the daytime hours and reopened at night. 
• Potential lane closures with alternating one-way traffic late next week for paving activities.
• Future Champlain Parkway – I-189 to Home Avenue: Fully closed, all traffic strictly prohibited.
• Please note, all vehicular impacts are restricted to active work hours (Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 7 PM) unless otherwise noted.

Construction Update

TRAVEL NOTICE:

The segment of the Champlain Parkway between Interstate 189 and Home Avenue is not completed and is not open for public access. Active construction continues along this segment which includes the movement and transport of construction vehicles, equipment, and materials. All other access (vehicular, pedestrian, or bicycle) is strictly prohibited.

DURATION:

Unless otherwise noted, work will be restricted to the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM, Monday through Friday.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES & TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Pine Street (north) Main Street to Kilburn Street:

Main Street at Pine Street Intersection:

Crews will continue installing concrete sidewalks at the intersection throughout the week. Crews will work at one corner at a time, focusing on the northeast corner. Pedestrian access will be maintained with detours in place. Limited impacts to traffic, if any. There is the potential for lane restrictions to accommodate equipment and materials, but the intersection will remain open to traffic.

King Street at Pine Street Intersection:

On Monday and Tuesday, crews will continue installing concrete sidewalks. Pedestrian access will be maintained with detours in place. Limited impacts to traffic, if any. There is the potential for lane restrictions to accommodate equipment and materials, but the intersection will remain open to traffic.

Maple Street at Pine Street Intersection:

On Wednesday, crews will fine-grade the intersection in preparation for base paving operations on Thursday and Friday. Paving operations will begin at 6 AM to reduce impacts on local businesses. This work will require the full closure of the intersection during the daytime hours of 7 AM and 7 PM. Fine-grading and paving operations are weather-dependent. Paving operations could be rescheduled to Monday (8/25) and Tuesday (8/26) due to rain. Additional intersection closures are planned through next week for curb installation; a supplemental notice will be provided.

Pine Street between Maple Street and Kilburn Street will be restricted to local traffic only and accessible from the south. Pine Street between King Street and Maple Street will be restricted to local traffic only and accessible from the north. Businesses will remain open and residences will remain accessible.

On Monday and Tuesday, the intersection will be partially closed. The southern leg of Pine Street will be fully closed during the daytime hours and reopened at night. Maple Street and the northern leg of Pine Street will remain open.

Pine Street – Maple Street to Kilburn Street:

On Monday, crews will remove the remaining sidewalk and curb along the east side of Pine Street between Maple Street and the project limits just north of Kilburn Street. On Tuesday and Wednesday, crews will fine-grade the roadway in preparation for base paving operations on Thursday and Friday. Paving operations will begin at 6 AM to reduce impacts on local businesses. Fine-grading and paving operations are weather-dependent. This work will require Pine Street to be restricted to local traffic only during the daytime hours of 6 AM and 7 PM and accessible from the south. Pine Street will be reduced to a single lane with alternating one-way traffic during fine-grading and paving operations. This work will require short stoppages and delays.

Businesses will remain open and residences will remain accessible. Temporary driveway interruptions will be in place while the paver passes and the asphalt cools. Important information regarding parking accommodations for impacted properties below!

Off the Roadway along the Future Champlain Parkway Alignment:

Work continues along the future Champlain Parkway alignment between Home Avenue and I-189. Crews will work to rehabilitate the median barrier along the Parkway under the Route 7 overpass and install new median barrier along the Parkway. In addition, crews will clean up the area. There is the potential for the curbing subcontractor to install curb along the Parkway as well. The public is reminded that this segment of the Champlain Parkway is NOT open to public access or travel of any kind.

IMPACTED PROPERTY PARKING ACCOMMODATIONS INFORMATION:

During driveway closures residents are asked to find alternative parking.



• Residents can find parking along neighboring streets, but should be aware of on-street parking restrictions, especially along Pine Street between Main Street and Kilburn Street on weekdays between 7AM and 7PM. Vehicles parked in temporary construction no-parking zones during active work hours will be towed.
• Free parking accommodations are available within the College Street City Garage starting at 7PM the day prior to any driveway closure through 7PM the day the driveway reopens.
• If you require special parking accommodations due to mobility limitations, alternative accessible parking accommodations will be made by the Contractor.

To request parking accommodations, please reach out to the Project Team with your address and the make, model, color, and license plate state and number of your vehicle. This information will be provided to Burlington Parking Services to reserve your parking. Your parking accommodation will automatically extend should driveway closures be delayed.

PROJECT LOCATION:

The Champlain Parkway Project spans a 2.8-mile area from the I-189 intersection with US 7 to Lakeside Avenue, and includes upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Main Street. 

The initial contract, conditionally accepted in December 2024, included the construction of the Champlain Parkway from Home Avenue to Lakeside Avenue, upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Kilburn Street.



The final contract, which broke ground in January 2025, includes the construction of the Champlain Parkway from existing I-189 near its intersection with U.S. Route 7 to Home Avenue and the section of Pine Street between Kilburn Street and Main Street.
