SPECIAL NOTICE:

This week, the Burlington Department of Public Works issued the Notice to Proceed to Engineers Construction Incorporated (ECI). Construction activities will begin on Monday, January 6, with winter work to take place predominantly outside of the roadway along the unused section of the previously constructed Southern Connector between Shelburne Street (Route 7) and Home Avenue.

DURATION:

Unless otherwise noted, work will be restricted to the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES & TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Crews will install variable message signs in various locations in Burlington and construction signage along portions of I-189, Route 7, Pine Street, and Queen City Park Road throughout the project area. These activities may require temporary single-lane or shoulder closures. Traffic will be maintained.

Crews will mobilize materials and equipment to the stockpile and staging areas located on Sears Lane (west of the Champlain Parkway) and the unused section of the previously constructed Southern Connector (just west of Route 7).



Crews will begin clearing vegetation and setting up erosion prevention and sediment control measures along the unused section of the Southern Connector between I-189 and Home Avenue. These activities will take place off the roadway with limited impacts to traffic.

INITIAL CONTRACT UPDATE:

As part of the initial contract, East Coast Signals will be onsite intermittently throughout January to complete the remaining traffic signal work. East Coast Signals will complete the remaining adjustments to the timing and phasing at the intersections of the Champlain Parkway at Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, Sears Lane, and Lakeside Avenue, and Pine Street at Lakeside Avenue, to address observations made since the new roadway was opened to traffic. This work will take place with limited impact on traffic.

PROJECT LOCATION:

The Champlain Parkway Project spans a 2.8-mile area from the I-189 intersection with US 7 to Lakeside Avenue, and includes upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Main Street. 

The initial contract includes the construction of the Champlain Parkway from Home Avenue to Lakeside Avenue, upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Kilburn Street. 



The final contract includes the construction of the Champlain Parkway from existing I-189 near its intersection with U.S. Route 7 to Home Avenue, and the section of Pine Street between Kilburn Street and Main Street.

NEARBY CONSTRUCTION PROJECT ALERT:

Construction vehicles and other equipment will be traveling throughout the South End as part of the Burlington Great Streets: Main Street Project, which began construction in February. A staging area for this project (where construction materials and equipment are stored) is located on Sears Lane. In addition, this project will be detouring traffic through the Champlain Parkway project limits.
