Construction Update

Champlain Parkway Project

DATE: Friday, April 19, 2024

DURATION:

Unless otherwise noted, work will be restricted to the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., all roadway and lane closures will reopen during the evening hours and on weekends, and access to residential and business driveways will be maintained. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists and pedestrians throughout the work zone. Businesses will remain open! Motorists should anticipate rough and uneven gravel driving surfaces throughout the project limits.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES & TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Pine Street

Crews will be working along Pine Street throughout the project limits between just south of Lakeside Avenue to Kilburn Street. Work will take place along either side of the roadway with construction activities phased to prevent overlapping work zones. This work will require lane closures, driveway impacts, on-street parking restrictions, and changes in traffic patterns. Access will be maintained and impacted property owners will be reached out to directly.

Starting Monday, April 22, 2024, at 7:00 a.m., Pine Street will be reduced to a single northbound travel lane between Locust Street and Kilburn Street during work hours. All southbound vehicles traveling south of Kilburn Street will be detoured from Pine Street at Maple Street to St. Paul Street and will continue along Shelburne Street to Flynn Avenue and back to Pine Street. Pine Street between Maple Street and Kilburn Street will remain open to two-way traffic.

Pine Place, Marble Avenue, and Howard Street will be restricted to right turn only at their intersection with Pine Street. Marble Avenue will remain open but at a reduced width. Kilburn Street will be closed at its intersection with Pine Street. This closure will remain in effect 24 hours a day until it is reopened Friday, April 26, by 7:00 p.m. Flaggers will be stationed at each side street to assist motorists. Please see the detour graphic below (click the image to enlarge).

Pine Street - East

Crews will continue removing existing and installing new concrete sidewalks along the east side of Pine Street between just south of Lakeside Avenue (near Play Dog Play) to Kilburn Street (near the Post Office). Crews began at the southern end, near Play Dog Play, working north. This work will require the closure of the east (northbound) lane along sections of Pine Street, on-street parking restrictions, and impact driveways. Access will be maintained and impacted property owners will be notified. Pedestrians will be detoured to the west side of Pine Street along the shared-use path.

Pine Street at Kilburn Street

Crews will be installing drainage infrastructure on Kilburn Street near its intersection with Pine Street. Kilburn Street will be closed at its intersection with Pine Street. This closure will remain in place 24 hours a day until Friday, April 26, by 7:00 p.m. Kilburn Street will be restricted to local traffic only between St. Paul Street and Pine Street.

Pine Street at Marble Avenue

Early next week, crews will begin excavating Pine Street at its intersection with Marble Avenue and installing roadway subbase in preparation for the construction of the raised intersection. This work will be completed half at a time with Pine Street reduced to a single northbound only travel lane. Access to Pine Street from Marble Avenue will be restricted to right out only.

Pine Street at Howard Street

Late next week, crews will begin excavating Pine Street at its intersection with Howard Street and installing roadway subbase in preparation for the construction of the raised intersection. This work will be completed half at a time with Pine Street reduced to a single northbound only travel lane. Access to Pine Street from Howard Street and the Maltex Building will be restricted to northbound only.

Lakeside Avenue

Crews may work along Lakeside Avenue between Pine Street and the railroad bridge to conduct general clean up and prep of the shared-use path. This work may require shoulder closures.

South End

Home Avenue, Lyman Avenue, and Briggs Street

Crews will continue electrical utility work for several properties on Home Avenue, Lyman Avenue, and Briggs Street. This work will take place predominantly off the roadway within the property frontage with limited impact to traffic. Impacted property owners have been notified.

Champlain Parkway

Crews will plant trees along the Champlain Parkway alignment between Home Avenue and Lakeside Avenue. This work will take place off the roadway with no impact to traffic
