CHAMPLAIN PARKWAY & MAIN STREET GREAT STREETS HIGHLIGHTS:

The Burlington Department of Public Works maintains a construction map containing traffic impacts, including traffic restrictions, roadway closures, and more, for all major construction projects in the Downtown District and the South End. Plan your travel with the most up-to-date information by using the map here.

Traffic impact highlights for the Champlain Parkway Project for Monday, March 29, through Thursday, April 2, are listed below:

  • I-189E On-Ramp from Route 7N: Single lane closure on Sunday during nighttime hours and Monday night through Tuesday.
  • Route 7 (Shelburne Road) – Swift Street to the I-189W Off-Ramp: Potential for single lane closures during regular construction hours.
  • Future Champlain Parkway – I-189 to Home Avenue: Fully closed, all traffic strictly prohibited.

For more detailed information on construction activities and traffic impacts related to the Champlain Parkway Project, read the Construction Update section below.

Highlights for the Main Street – Great Streets Project listed below:

  • No work will occur next week.
  • Weekly email updates have resumed and will go out on Thursdays.
  • While weather dependent, SDI plans to start up more regular work 4/6, beginning within the sidewalk area of the corridor.
  • In general, construction this season will be much less impactful as it is largely surface-level work and standard paving/sidewalk reconstruction.
  • As always, while some pedestrian detours may be in place, pedestrian access is maintained throughout the entire project area unless otherwise noted.

DURATION:

Unless otherwise noted, work will be restricted to the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM, Monday through Friday. Night work on Sunday, March 29 and Monday, March 30, on the I-189E On-Ramp from Route 7N. Crews will be offsite on Friday, April 2.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES & TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Route 7 (Shelburne Road):

Crews will continue installing overhead sign foundations in the vicinity along Route 7 (Shelburne Road) between Swift Street and the I-189W Off-Ramp. The majority of this work will be completed outside of the roadway under shoulder closure. There may be instances of single lane closures along Route 7 (Shelburne Road).

I-189E On-Ramp from Route 7N (Shelburne Street):

Crews will install the overhead sign foundations along the I-189E On-Ramp from Route 7N. On Sunday, March 29, crews will be drilling in preparation for the construction of the foundations. This will require the on-ramp to be reduced to a single lane during nighttime hours. On Monday, March 30, and continuing through the day Tuesday, March 31, crews will be constructing the overhead sign foundations. This will require the on-ramp to be reduced to a single lane. Crews will begin setting up each day at 6 PM with the lane closure scheduled to begin by 7 PM. Crews will work to fully reopen the on-ramp as soon as possible. Access to the on-ramp will be maintained.

Champlain Parkway – I-189 to Home Avenue:

The segment of the Champlain Parkway between Interstate 189 and Home Avenue is not completed and is not open for public access. Active construction continues along this segment, which includes the movement and transport of construction vehicles, equipment, and materials. All other access (vehicular, pedestrian, or bicycle) is strictly prohibited.
