TRAVEL NOTICE:

Please note the unused section of the previously constructed Southern Connector between Shelburne Street (Route 7) and Home Avenue is an active work zone! For your safety, vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle access along this area is strictly prohibited. 

DURATION:

Unless otherwise noted, work will be restricted to the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES & TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Crews will continue working outside of the roadway along the unused section of the previously constructed Southern Connector between Shelburne Street (Route 7) and Home Avenue. Crews will continue clearing vegetation and setting up erosion prevention and sediment control measures throughout the area. Crews will begin removing portions of existing roadway surface and subbase material in preparation for the installation drainage infrastructure along the future Champlain Parkway alignment starting near Home Avenue and working towards Shelburne Street (Route 7). These activities will take place off the roadway with limited impacts to traffic. 

INITIAL CONTRACT UPDATE:

As part of the initial contract, East Coast Signals will be onsite intermittently throughout January to complete the remaining traffic signal work. East Coast Signals will complete the remaining adjustments to the timing and phasing at the intersections of the Champlain Parkway at Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, Sears Lane, and Lakeside Avenue, and Pine Street at Lakeside Avenue, to address observations made since the new roadway was opened to traffic. This work will take place with limited impact on traffic.

PROJECT LOCATION:

The Champlain Parkway Project spans a 2.8-mile area from the I-189 intersection with US 7 to Lakeside Avenue, and includes upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Main Street. 

The initial contract, conditionally accepted in December 2024, included the construction of the Champlain Parkway from Home Avenue to Lakeside Avenue, upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Kilburn Street.



The final contract, broke ground in January 2025, includes the construction of the Champlain Parkway from existing I-189 near its intersection with U.S. Route 7 to Home Avenue, and the section of Pine Street between Kilburn Street and Main Street.

NEARBY CONSTRUCTION PROJECT ALERT:

Construction vehicles and other equipment will be traveling throughout the South End as part of the Burlington Great Streets: Main Street Project, which began construction in February. A staging area for this project (where construction materials and equipment are stored) is located on Sears Lane. In addition, this project will be detouring traffic through the Champlain Parkway project limits.
