Construction Update

Champlain Parkway Project

DATE: Friday, December 30, 2022

Crews will be offsite starting at noon TODAY, Friday, December 30, and will return on Tuesday, January 3, at 7:00 a.m. in observance of New Years.

Please note, all work will be restricted to the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone. All roadway and lane closures will reopen during the evening hours and on weekends unless otherwise noted. Access to residential and business driveways will be maintained throughout the work unless alerted otherwise. Businesses will remain open!

There is the potential for Ferguson and Lyman Avenues to be closed their intersections with Briggs Street throughout the week to facilitate utility work.

Throughout the week, traffic along Briggs Street will be temporarily shifted onto the parkway alignment. Briggs Street will be intermittently reduced to a single lane with alternating north-south traffic. The parkway alignment is a gravel surface. Motorists should use caution.

There is the potential for Home Avenue between Queen City Park Road and Foster Street to be temporarily reduced to one lane with alternating one-way traffic to facilitate duct bank work.

Sears Lane will continue to be closed to thru traffic west of Kaigle’s Service Center. Emergency vehicle access will remain. The pedestrian crossing between Sears Lane and Harrison Avenue will remain open. Vehicle access to the HULA Lakeside Offsite Parking Lot (HULA parking lot) will now be from Lakeside Avenue only.

Crews will continue work on utilities next week with a focus on the installation of electrical and telecommunications conduit, stormwater infrastructure, and duct bank.

Crews will continue installing stormwater infrastructure between Flynn and Home Avenues. This work will include installing the connections from the mainline on Briggs Street and Batchelder Street to the side streets such as Ferguson and Lyman Avenues and Morse Place. In addition, crews will be working on the installation of the new stormwater treatment system to be located in the back parking lot of the Flynn Avenue Co-op located at 288 Flynn Avenue. There is the potential for mobilization and preparatory activities next week with the work anticipated to begin the week of January 9. This work will take approximately one month to complete. Supplemental information will be issued to the residents of the Flynn Avenue Co-op.

Next week, crews will continue electrical and telecommunications work for residences on Briggs Street, Ferguson, Lyman, and Home Avenues. This work will require service connections to residences over the upcoming weeks. A member of the Champlain Parkway project team has reached out to property owners in advance to schedule service connections.

There is the potential for duct bank installation to begin along Home Avenue between Queen City Park Road and Foster Street.

Independent utility companies will be onsite over the next several weeks relocating existing utilities. Next week, Consolidate Communications and Burlington Telecommunications will be onsite cutting over to the new services on Flynn Avenue. There is the potential for utility service disruptions as part of this work. Impacted businesses and residents will be notified in advance by the independent utility companies. There is the potential for independent utility companies to be onsite conducting work associated with the anticipated duck bank work on Home Avenue.

These activities are anticipated and subject to change as construction conditions dictate.
