Construction Update

Champlain Parkway Project

DATE: Friday, June 9, 2023

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

There is upcoming night and weekend work as part of the railroad improvements at the Home Avenue railroad crossing. Crews will be onsite Saturday, June 10, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to prepare for the railroad reconstruction work. Starting Sunday, June 11, at 7:00 a.m., and continuing through Monday, June 12, at 7:00 a.m., crews will be onsite reconstructing portions of the railroad tracks at the crossing outside of the operational hours of the railroad. This work will be completed under the full closure of Home Avenue between Foster Street and Queen City Park Road (additional information is provided below).

TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Please note, all work will be restricted to the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., all roadway and lane closures will reopen during the evening hours and on weekends, and access to residential and business driveways will be maintained unless otherwise noted. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists throughout the work zone. Businesses will remain open! Motorists should anticipate rough and uneven gravel driving surfaces throughout the work zone.

The section of Home Avenue just west of Foster Street and just east of Queen City Park Road will continue to be closed. The closure will be in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is anticipated to continue for several more weeks through early July. The vehicular detour route will remain in place utilizing Pine Street and Queen City Park Road. Pedestrian access at the Home Avenue railroad crossing will remain closed through mid-June. The pedestrian detour route will remain in place utilizing the section of the Burlington Greenway (existing shared-use path) between Home Avenue and Queen City Park Road, Queen City Park Road, and Austin Drive. For additional information including a detour graphic,  click here.

There is the potential for intermittent single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic on Queen City Park Road at its intersection with Home Avenue to facilitate reconstruction work.

There will be intermittent shoulder closures along Lakeside Avenue between Pine Street and the westerly driveway at 128 Lakeside Avenue.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:

Crews will continue working on Home Avenue between Foster Street and Queen City Park Road under a full closure. Railroad crossing improvement work will continue throughout the weekend and through next week. Work continues installing underground utilities and reconstructing the roadway along Home Avenue throughout the closure area.

Ferguson Avenue and Lyman Avenue are permanently closed at Briggs Street. Crews will continue working on the cul-de-sac at the east end of Ferguson Avenue. Work will begin constructing the cul-de-sac at the east end of Lyman Avenue. This work will take place east of Foster Street. This work may require short driveway closures on Ferguson and Lyman Avenues. Impacted property owners and residents will be notified by a member of the Project Team.

Crews will begin potholing or drilling exploratory holes along Lakeside Avenue to identify and confirm the locations of underground utilities. This work will require intermittent shoulder closures.

Crews will complete additional work outside of the roadway throughout the project area. Work continues on the stormwater detention pond between Sears Lane and Flynn Avenue as crews work to install the remaining sections of fencing along the perimeter of the pond. Along the Parkway alignment, crews will continue installing top soil and will begin paving the Parkway between Sears Lane and Home Avenue working south. Crews will continue working to install the underground stormwater infrastructure within the parking area at 288 Flynn Avenue (the Flynn Avenue Co-op) and will begin reconstructing the disturbed sections of the parking area later in the week.

NOTICE OF TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF QUIET ZONE: Work continues on the rail road crossing improvements at Flynn and Home Avenues. A temporary suspension of the residential Quiet Zone will be in effect to facilitate the improvement work. Audible train horns will be used to provide advanced warning of oncoming trains. The residential Quiet Zone will be reestablished once the work is completed.
