Construction Update

Champlain Parkway Project

DATE: Friday December 29, 2023

Next week, exploratory work will continue along Pine Street between Kilburn Street and Main Street in preparation for future work planned as part of the subsequent construction phase.

This work will be completed predominantly with two lanes of traffic maintained along Pine Street. Travel lanes will shift, and segments of on-street parking will be temporarily restricted. This work may require single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by a flagger. Two lanes will be maintained along Pine Street during the peak hours of 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Starting Tuesday, January 2, SDK will perform exploratory excavation to identify and confirm the locations of existing underground utilities and subsurface conditions for future infrastructure work.

Winter shutdown for the Champlain Parkway Project continues, with major construction activities on hiatus until the spring. Please note that SDK will maintain an on-site presence throughout the winter shutdown.

East Coast Signals will be on-site to install traffic signals along the Champlain Parkway throughout the winter.

In observance of the New Year’s Holiday, crews will be offsite on Monday, January 1. Minor construction activities will resume on Tuesday, January 2.

Work throughout the winter shutdown will continue to be restricted to between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.

Throughout the winter shutdown, work will take place predominantly off the roadway with minor impacts to traffic.

Traffic Signal Installation

East Coast Signals will be on-site throughout the winter shutdown, working to install traffic signals at the intersections of the Champlain Parkway at Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, Sears Lane, and Lakeside Avenue. After the new year, work will take place predominantly off the roadway; however, some installation work may require a short shoulder closure.

Please be advised that the newly constructed segment of the Champlain Parkway between Home Avenue and Lakeside Avenue has not been completed and is not open for public access. Vehicular traffic along this segment is prohibited. Pedestrian and bicycle access along this portion of the shared-use path is restricted. This area will not be maintained throughout the winter.

All travel surfaces along pre-existing roads, including newly constructed roadways, sidewalks, and shared-use paths on Pine Street, Lakeside Avenue, Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, and Sears Lane, are open and will continue to be maintained throughout the winter.
