Construction Update

Champlain Parkway Project

DATE: Friday, February 14, 2025

PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT:

The unused section of the previously constructed Southern Connector between Shelburne Street (Route 7) and Home Avenue is an active work zone! For your safety, vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle access along this area is strictly prohibited.

Crews will be accessing the work zone from the southern end of Pine Street near Queen City Park Road, the western end of Home Avenue at the Champlain Parkway, and Shelburne Street near Buffalo Wild Wings via the ramp to the future Champlain Parkway. Travelers are encouraged to drive slowly and look out for construction vehicles and equipment entering and exiting the work zone, especially at the southern end of Pine Street near Queen City Park Road. Additionally, travel along the ramp and unused section of the Southern Connector is restricted to construction vehicles and equipment only.

TRAVEL ADVISORY:

Anticipated to start on March 5, the connection of Pine Street to Queen City Park Road will be permanently closed to accommodate the future Champlain Parkway connection between I-189 and Home Avenue. For additional information regarding the permanent closure and its associated impacts, please read the full announcement here. A supplemental Traffic Alert will be issued in advance of the permanent closure of the southern end of Pine Street.

DURATION:

Unless otherwise noted, work will be restricted to the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES & TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Crews will continue working outside of the roadway along the unused section of the previously constructed Southern Connector between Shelburne Street (Route 7) and Home Avenue.

Next week, crews will continue installing barrier fencing and clearing and grubbing along the future Champlain Parkway and ramp alignments. Crews will continue removing the existing roadway surface and subbase materials for the installation of underground utilities. Crews will continue installing street lighting conduit and pole bases. These activities will take place along the future Champlain Parkway alignment between Home Avenue and Shelburne Street (Route 7). These activities will take place off the roadway with limited impacts to traffic. There will be an increase of construction vehicle traffic at the southern portion of Pine Street near Queen City Park Road, the west end of Home Avenue at the Champlain Parkway, and on Shelburne Street (Route 7) near Buffalo Wild Wings to allow site access. Stay alert and use caution while traveling throughout the project area.
