DURATION:

Isolated construction activities will take place from Monday, December 9, through Friday, December 13, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Access to residential and business driveways will be maintained, and all roadway and lane restrictions will be lifted during the evening hours and on weekends. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists throughout the work zone during active construction hours. 

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES & TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Crews will have an intermittent presence throughout the project limits. This work may require lane or shoulder closures and changes to traffic patterns. Access to impacted properties will be maintained.



Crews will be on-site replacing fence panels and other punch list work. East Coast Signals is anticipated to return next week to upgrade traffic signal equipment at the intersections of the Champlain Parkway at Lakeside Avenue and Pine Street at Lakeside Avenue and to adjust the signal timing and phasing at the intersections of the Champlain Parkway at Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, Sears Lane, and Lakeside Avenue to address observations made since the new roadway was opened to traffic.

PROJECT ANNOUNCEMENT:

The City of Burlington Department of Public Works (DPW) has awarded Engineers Construction Inc. (ECI) the final construction contract for phase two of the Champlain Parkway Project. Construction activities for phase two could begin as early as December 16, 2024, with work taking place off the roadway along the unused section of the previously constructed Southern Connector between Shelburne Street (Route 7) and Home Avenue.

Burlington DPW invites you to attend a hybrid Abutter Meeting to learn more about the project, construction activities, potential impacts, and schedule. Project team members will be available to answer questions and address concerns. The meeting will be held on Thursday, December 12 at 6 p.m. in the front conference room at the DPW Building located at 645 Pine Street and online via Zoom Webinar.

The Champlain Parkway Project spans a 2.8-mile area from the I-189 intersection with US 7 to Lakeside Avenue, and includes upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Main Street. 

The initial contract includes the construction of the Champlain Parkway from Home Avenue to Lakeside Avenue, upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Kilburn Street. 



The final contract includes the construction of the Champlain Parkway from existing I-189 near its intersection with U.S. Route 7 to Home Avenue, and the section of Pine Street between Kilburn Street and Main Street.

NEARBY CONSTRUCTION PROJECT ALERT:

Construction vehicles and other equipment will be traveling throughout the South End as part of the Burlington Great Streets: Main Street Project, which began construction in February. A staging area for this project (where construction materials and equipment are stored) is located on Sears Lane. In addition, this project will be detouring traffic through the Champlain Parkway project limits.
