The City of Burlington Department of Public Works (DPW) awarded the final contract of the Champlain Parkway Project to Engineers Construction Inc. (ECI) in August 2025. This 2.8-mile project will connect I-189 to the City’s South End, alleviate neighborhood traffic, and transform the existing road into a two-lane multi-modal roadway.
The final contract includes the construction of the Champlain Parkway between Home Avenue and I-189 and improvements to Pine Street between Kilburn Street and Main Street. Work on the final contract began in January 2025 along the unused section of the previously constructed Southern Connector. This work will continue through June 2026. Work on Pine Street (north) is anticipated to begin in April 2025 with major work completed by December 2025.
Improvements to Pine Street (north) include drainage upgrades, new granite curb, pavement, line striping, permanent roadway signage, pedestrian accommodation improvements, the installation of new traffic signals at Maple and King Streets, and upgrades to the existing traffic signal at Main Street. This work will be completed predominately on weekdays between the hours of 7 AM – 7 PM with potential night and weekend work if needed. This work will require temporary block segment road closures with short detours and instances of one-lane with alternating one-way traffic. Some work will require temporary driveway width reductions and sidewalk closures. Pedestrian detours will be signed. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained.
