Permanent Change in Side Street Connections in Burlington, VT

The Champlain Parkway Project will be implementing permanent traffic pattern changes throughout the South End to reflect the final condition as shown in the graphic below.

The final condition between Home and Flynn Avenues.

Starting Tuesday, May 30, Briggs Street will no longer connect to Morse Place, Lyman Avenue and Ferguson Avenue, and Batchelder Street will no longer connect to Home Avenue.


The connections to Briggs Street from Morse Place, Lyman Avenue, and Ferguson Avenue will be permanently closed. Briggs Street will have no outlet and will be accessible via Flynn Avenue only. Morse Place, Lyman Avenue, and Ferguson Avenue will have no outlet west of Foster Street and will be accessible via Foster Street. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the ends of Briggs Street, Lyman Avenue, and Ferguson Avenue. A turnaround will be constructed at the end of Morse Place. The connection to Batchelder Street from Home Avenue will be permanently closed. Batchelder Street will have no outlet and will be accessible via Morse Place only.


Existing pedestrian connections will remain open temporarily until alternative accommodations can be provided. A supplemental notice will follow.


Morse Place will be permanently closed to through traffic. The connection will be maintained for residential and business access impacted by the Home Avenue closure and for construction vehicles and equipment access to the Parkway alignment. 

Update to Home Avenue Closure in Burlington, VT

The section of Home Avenue from just west of Foster Street to just east of Queen City Park Road was closed starting Monday, May 8, and will continue to be closed for the next 4-6 weeks (subject to change as weather and construction conditions dictate. The closure will continue to be in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A vehicular detour route is in place utilizing Queen City Park Road. Starting late next week, crews will begin railroad crossing improvement work at Home Avenue. Over the next 4 weeks (through mid-June), this work will require the closure of the pedestrian and bicycle access at the Home Avenue railroad crossing. Cyclists can use the existing vehicular detour utilizing Home Avenue, Pine Street, Queen City Park Road, and Austin Drive as shown below in orange or the pedestrian detour utilizing the section of the Burlington Greenway (existing shared-use path) between Home Avenue and Queen City Park Road, Queen City Park Road, and Austin Drive as shown below in pink.

NOTICE OF TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF QUIET ZONE: Work continues on the rail road crossing improvements at Flynn and Home Avenues. A temporary suspension of the residential Quiet Zone will be in effect to facilitate the improvement work. Audible train horns will be used to provide advanced warning of oncoming trains. The residential Quiet Zone will be reestablished once the work is completed.

ABOUT THE CHAMPLAIN PARKWAY PROJECT

PROJECT LOCATION:

The Champlain Parkway Project spans a 2.8-mile area from the I-189 intersection with US 7 to Lakeside Avenue, and includes upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Main Street. 

The initial contract includes the construction of the Champlain Parkway from Home Avenue to Lakeside Avenue, upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Kilburn Street.
