Crews began working to reconstruct and rehabilitate the unused section of the Champlain Parkway between I-189 and Home Avenue in January of 2025. To date, crews have installed subsurface drainage and lighting conduit, installed lighting poles, replaced the roadway subbase, graded and fine-graded the roadway, and paved a majority of the base course or first layers of asphalt. Crews are currently working to install the sections of the concrete median barrier along portions of the Parkway and the access ramps. During the remainder of this construction season, crews will continue installing concrete median barrier, granite curbing, raised median islands, guardrail, lighting infrastructure, including wiring and lighting fixtures, landscaping, post-mounted signage, and the remaining base pavement. Additionally, independent utility work is anticipated to take place this year. The contractor anticipates installing new overhead signs and infrastructure along the Parkway over the winter. In the spring/early summer, crews will pave the final lift of asphalt and install all line striping and pavement markings.
This segment of the Champlain Parkway must open by July 30, 2026. There is the potential for this connection to be opened to traffic earlier if construction progress allows. The Champlain Parkway will not open until all necessary work has been completed to allow safe travel along the segment, including streetlighting, paving, line striping and pavement markings, median and guardrail, and roadway signage. In addition, the rehabilitation of Pine Street, including operational traffic signals at the King Street, Maple Street, and Main Street intersections, must be completed before the opening of the Champlain Parkway to accommodate the changes in traffic patterns along this corridor resulting from the Parkway.
