Champlain Parkway Project

DATE ISSUED: Sunday, April 27, 2025

Main Street and Pine Street Intersection to Fully Close for Several Weeks Starting TOMORROW, Monday, April 28 in Burlington, VT

Starting TOMORROW, Monday, April 28, the intersection of Main Street and Pine Street will be fully closed for several weeks to complete the reconstruction of the intersection as part of the Main Street Great Streets project and the Champlain Parkway project. This closure will remain in place 24/7. Pine Street between King Street and Main Street will remain open, but restricted to local traffic only. Thru traffic will be prohibited. Vehicular thru traffic will be detoured at Maple Street, while thru truck traffic will be detoured at Kilburn Street to St. Paul Street. Businesses will remain open and accessible via Pine Street. Eastbound traffic on Main Street will be detoured at S. Champlain Street to College Street and westbound traffic on Main Street will be detoured at St. Paul Street to College Street.

The Champlain Parkway project will continue to rehabilitate Pine Street between Kilburn Street and Main Street, focusing on the northernmost block between King Street and Main Street. This block will be restricted to local traffic only due to the closure of Main Street at Pine Street. This work will require lane closures with alternating one-way traffic. Two-way traffic will be maintained.

The work along Pine Street between Kilburn Street and Main Street will consist of the rehabilitation of the roadway, including new curbing, pavement, line striping, roadway signage, and stormwater improvements. New traffic signals will be installed at the Maple Street, King Street, and Main Street intersections. Improvements to pedestrian accommodations will include protected pedestrian crossing phases at the new signals, a mid-block crossing between Kilburn Street and Maple Street, new sidewalks along both sides of the roadway, and new brick paver crosswalks at Maple Street and King Street.
