It's not goodbye—it's "I'll see you later!" Summer is coming to an end, and Chanco is wrapping up another fantastic season. We want to extend a huge thank you to our awesome campers and their families for choosing Chanco on the James. We also want to take a moment to give thanks to our dedicated staff for all of their hard work, care, love, and effort they have put into this season. From ziplining above the trees to spiritual growth through faith formation and worship, this has been a summer we won't forget. We wish everyone a stellar school year ahead—we can't wait to see you next summer!

Online Medusa Event–Meet the Author Night

via Zoom on Sunday, September 15 at 4PM

LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER!

We are preparing for an evening full of online fun and reading at our Medusa Event–Meet the Author Night on Sunday, September 15. This event is both for individuals who have read the book, those who are interested in doing so, or those who just want to meet Katherine Marsh and hear what motivates and inspires her writing. So mark your calendar for Sunday, September 15 at 4PM, grab a warm cup of tea or coffee, and get ready for an online event full of fun and interaction!

To gear up for our event, we wanted to share a personal message from the author, Katherine. Please enjoy her sentiments below, and don't forget to register for this incredible event!

Dear Chanco on the James Families,

I am Katherine Marsh, the author of many award-winning books for

young readers including the 2023 National Book Award Finalist, The Lost

Year, and Nowhere Boy. My latest book is MEDUSA: THE MYTH OF

MONSTERS. It's the first in a Greek Myths series for readers 8-12.

Imagine Percy Jackson, Wednesday Addams, and Madeline Miller...at

Hogwarts. The New York Times featured it earlier this year in its Book

Review in a great write-up!

MEDUSA is not only perfect for myth-loving kids looking for their next

series, but it’s a conversation starter for elementary and middle school

students about using your voice to stand up for yourself and help

others. MEDUSA also explores a key theme of all my books: who gets to tell

the story. Best of all, the magic school world and adventure is fun, entertaining

and fast-paced; as the mom of a middle-schooler, I wrote this book to get

more kids reading at a time when reading is in decline. (The next book in the

series will be out in April 2025.)

Attached is an audio sample of me reading from MEDUSA for you to share with your kids: link here!

Best,

Katherine

Donor Appreciation and Day of Thanksgiving

Saturday, November 16

Chanco donors please save the date — SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2024!

Join us for the Annual Donor Appreciation Luncheon, followed by a special Thanksgiving Eucharist. More details will be forthcoming by mail very soon!

And, if you are unsure if you have made your annual gift to Chanco, or would like to, please reach out to development@chanco.org for a conversation!

New Policies at Chanco

Beginning January 1, 2024, the Chanco Board has made a decision to introduce a small convenience fee on all credit card payments for both camps and retreats. This 3% fee is a modest adjustment that will help us continue to provide you with exceptional service and maintain the high standards that make Chanco a cherished destination.

We understand that change can sometimes be met with questions, and we want to assure you that this decision was made after careful consideration and with your best interests at heart. The convenience fee will directly offset the fees that Chanco incurs when accepting credit card transactions. You may avoid this fee by making your payment by check or cash.

We want to express our gratitude for your continued support, trust, and dedication to the Chanco community. Your participation in our camps and retreats has played a crucial role in shaping the vibrant and inclusive atmosphere that defines Chanco. Thank you for being an integral part of the Chanco family, and we can't wait to create more wonderful memories together in 2024!
