October 2019
Change begins with you! Are you in?

“Change begins with you. It begins with me. It begins with us,” Jim Sims, United Way of Monroe County 2019-2020 Campaign Cabinet Chair rallied support and inspired attendees during the annual Campaign Kick-Off event.

At the September 12 luncheon, community members and volunteers gathered to connect and lend their support towards the mission of United Way. Speakers reinforced why it's important for all of us to stand up to ensure families in Monroe, Owen, and Greene counties have opportunities and everyone can meet basic living needs.

Efrat Feferman, Executive Director of United Way of Monroe County, hosted a panel discussion featuring partner agency representatives William Morris, Attorney at Law at Indiana Legal Services; Kaitlin King, LCSW, Senior Clinical Therapist at Catholic Charities Bloomington; and Emily Pike, Executive Director of New Hope for Families.

The discussion focused on families in our community that live just about the poverty line and do not qualify for federal assistance, but still struggle to meet their basic needs. These families are called ALICE families: Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained, but Employed.

Kathryn engages and guides United Way agencies through community impact work, outcomes measurement, and public policy. Designing and leading engagement of local United Ways at the Statehouse, working year-round with legislators and key community stakeholders in home districts, and targeting activism on priority issues, Kathryn manages the public policy initiatives around the state and advocates for policies that provide stability, encourage upward economic mobility, and expand access to healthy, safe, and thriving communities for all Hoosiers. We're delighted to welcome her to Monroe County!
