Greetings...
Hello Fairfax!! My name is Bryson and I'm humbled at the opportunity to become your new pastor! I say that knowing these times of transition are beyond difficult and I want to acknowledge the shock you may be feeling after hearing the news about this pastoral transition from Pastor Bonney. I know David has served Fairfax UMC faithfully, and I'm grateful to say he has been a friend to me and my family during this liminal season. I want you to know that Pastor Bonney and his family, along with all of you, remain in my prayers.
Knowing there's only so much I can share in an introductory email, I can say that my family and I are looking forward to meeting you! Lori and I met in college and we've enjoyed raising our three children, Jackson, McKinley, and Madalyn. Lori directs All God's Children Camp, a Virginia Conference camp for kids with incarcerated parents through the summer. Jackson is currently a junior at Shenandoah University and Conservatory studying Music Education and is possibly considering ministry as a vocation. McKinley and Madalyn (Mac & Madi) are our twin daughters entering sixth grade.
For now, I would like to share with you that I've been serving under appointment since 2002 and I've had a great journey during my ministry. Some of those memories come from serving Burke UMC over sixteen years ago and serving in Christiansburg and the Queen City of Staunton, Virginia. I'm currently serving Good Shepherd UMC in the West End of Richmond, where I've been the Lead Pastor for the last seven years. Like you, we have navigated our way into a post-Covid world with a renewed curiosity about how we can faithfully serve God and the church. Over the course of ministry, my passion for discipleship has only grown and has taught me how much more I need to learn, trusting in the power of transformation.
There's much to say about what I think about ministry and the church and I can't wait to share and learn with you starting in July, but I'll close by saying that I'm looking forward to serving with you! I promise I will bring a passion and authenticity with me that I pray will help us continue the great work of God through Fairfax United Methodist Church.
