Defying the Odds

Turning adversity into ambition through resilience and support

Rashid, is 16 years old and has been part of the CHI–Falkland Road project since 2016, growing up in the challenging environment of the Falkland Road red-light area, alongside his mother.

Today, he stands out as a determined Grade 10 student at a reputed school and a proud member of the Head Boy team, balancing academic excellence with quiet leadership. With consistent support, from documentation and financial inclusion to counselling and educational sponsorship, Rashid has blossomed into a confident, values-driven young leader.

His dream of becoming an IPS officer is not just an aspiration, but a promise he is already working towards - encouraging his mother to save & planning to support his own education - reflecting resilience, responsibility, and hope for a future beyond circumstance.

Spotlight

Highlights from the project

Listening, learning, and standing beside every dream.

Our long-time supporter, Sunil Sani, CHI Advisory Board Member, recently visited the CHI-Cuffe Parade project to witness, firsthand, the realities our children navigate each day. He was accompanied by Ms. Ellie Kewalramani and Dr. Vijay Dhar, CHI supporters.

Spending meaningful time in conversation, laughter, and shared moments, he connected deeply with the children, listening to their stories, understanding their journeys, and experiencing the spirit that drives their dreams.

Many voices, one mission: empowering every girl to shine

The She Shine initiative in Palghar recently saw visits by Maya Rajani, CHI-Treasurer and Aarti Kamat, CHI-Board Member. The team from Prerana Anti-Trafficking, led by Reehanbaig Mirza, also visited the site to observe a live She Shine session in action, since this program will start soon at CHI-Falkland Road. This personal engagement by diverse stakeholders reflects the growing interest and collaborative momentum behind empowering young girls through She Shine.

If you are in India and would like to spend time at one of our project sites, please reach out: info@childrenshopeindia.org; we’d be glad to facilitate a visit.

CH3 - Children Helping Children

Play with Purpose. Change a Life.

More than just a game, the CH3 3v3 Basketball Tournament was a celebration of energy, teamwork, and purpose. Thirty-two teams of three competed with great enthusiasm, raising funds for children in need. This event was a reminder of the fact that when passion meets purpose, even a simple game can become a powerful force for change, bringing communities together and turning moments of play into lasting impact.

Walk the change you want to see

Step into a morning of purpose, community, and impact at the CH3 Walkathon on Sunday, April 12, 2026. This event brings together supporters of all ages to walk for a cause that truly matters.

Every step will support children living in shelters in New York, turning movement into meaningful change. With exciting perks like raffle prizes for early registrants and a vibrant, family-friendly atmosphere, the walkathon is more than just an event: it’s a collective stride toward brighter futures.

Join us, show your support, and help ensure that every child gets the opportunity they deserve.

Food For Thought

A generational shift in giving to India

A new generation of young diaspora donors is reshaping giving to India by making it more collaborative, transparent, and impact-driven. Leveraging digital platforms and peer networks, they are moving beyond traditional charity toward community-led, results-focused philanthropy, bringing fresh energy and deeper engagement to social impact. This interesting article by Alex Counts, Executive Director of the India Philanthropy Alliance  and Maya Rajani, CHI Treasurer, presents deep and interesting insights into how young diaspora donors are reshaping giving to India. Know more.
