Lifestyle: Change--Especially the 'Unexpected'

August 2016

Peridot
helps to us to understand changes occurring in our life

August: Change is in the air.  Change of summer fun and family activities are moving to a more structured routine as school begins later this month for many.  And yet, we are being called to change in a deeper way as the astrological sky is pushing and pulling us to do things that maybe need to be finished or are complete.  If we have not had the willingness or desire to "jump off the fence" the Universe is doing it for us.  Astrologer Phyllis Mitz states it this way and refers to the energy during the first week in August.

Revelations are key: Mars, the planet of action, brings hidden things to light.  If you need to be aware of something to complete a karmic lesson, (unfinished business) it can come to light soon. Let yourself change!   "Mars' prolonged trip through powerful Scorpio has likely been challenging you to use your power in new or different ways. This includes your sexual, emotional, financial, mental and/or spiritual power.  Or, quite possibly all of them."

I have clients and friends going through all sorts of upheaval regarding aging parents, careers/jobs, relationship heartaches, choices regarding integrity, and have been riding the emotional roller coaster as of late; none of us are exempt.  No matter what the cause, one friend says, "I can decide to look at this situation, as the "glass being either half empty or half full.' I am choosing to see it has half full." Sometime, we miss the silver lining; my Mother used to say, a blessing in disguise. Because, after the storm has passed we are much stronger, and have much more clarity than ever before. Lesson's learned and wisdom stored for another day. We can never unlearn something; that's impossible.

Paulo Coelho, one of my favorite authors, writes profoundly about change. Closing Cycles he says, is when a stage comes to an end; one always has to know. "If we insist on staying longer than the necessary time, we lose the happiness and the meaning of the other stages we have to go through; closing cycles, shutting doors, ending chapters or whatever name we give it.

What matters is to leave in the past the moments of life that have finished. . . . Before a new chapter is begun, the old one has to be finished: tell yourself that what has passed will never come back. Remember that there was a time when you could live without that thing or that person; nothing is irreplaceable, a habit is not a need. This may sound so obvious, it may even be difficult, but it is very important.

Closing cycles is important.  Not because of pride, incapacity or arrogance, but simply because that no longer fits your life. Shut the door, change the record, clean the house, shake off the dust. Stop being who you were, and change into who you are."

It's impossible to play UNCLE with the Universe and win.  Instead believe that all change happens for a reason-and actually for our highest good-growth-and expansion; with the lessons we are calling for in the moment. Below are five suggestions for dealing with unexpected change:

  1. Be Brave - whatever comes up in your life, it is important  to confront the pain, or situation that at best may be intimidating you, without feeling fear. Sometimes easier said than done; this means digging into our inner core strength.  Almost a 'test of character' if you will. This allows us to be bigger than our crisis or incoming change. I know I always feel better when I make a decision-no matter what-I am just going to tackle this "thing" head on-whether it's a piece of mail, traffic ticket, phone call, or larger "life" crisis.  Whenever I take "Action" it moves me away from the anticipation of fear and into my true power where I can solve things with greater ease.
  2. Seek Help - Most of the time, our ability to know what to do, lies within our own sense of knowing; simply honoring and trusting ourselves.  However, seeking a reliable friend, life coach, therapist or professional can give you-us-the added assurance and comfort of getting a new perspective or resource and, selecting those options which are best for our circumstances.
  3. Use Your courage - having the confidence to walk into the unknown is necessary.  We have all done this at one time or another-whether it is moving to a new city, living on our own-or taking a new job that requires us to stretch beyond our comfort zone. In spite of the overwhelming task or situation each of us has the ability to undertake  the difficulty or pain despite the unavoidable fear we may be feeling.   In other words, we can talk ourselves down off the ledge of fear no matter how overwhelmed we may feel in the moment. I have done it-and so can you.
  4. Choose To See Your Situation - when we completely release or surrender to the situation and allow ourselves to be guided, without blame for another everything begins to shift.  If we can look at the bigger picture, we often realize that this "was a long time in coming" or the cycle was complete. This always changes my perspective and makes it easier to move forward.  We must still process our pain, loss or grief, but we have to be willing look for the new door, open it and walk through it, to get to the other side-and what new direction life is calling us.   Even things that we are totally excited about, still may carry uncertainty.
  5. Wisdom Of Moving Forward -  Each milestone in our lives, gives us an experience or knowledge we didn't have before.  When the rainstorm has passed, and it always does, it is important to reflect: How can I be a better person because of this?  Or what did I learn or what should I be leaning from this?   There is no going backwards.  As we are pushed and pulled by life, life can get even more stressful.  Do not forgot to use things like journaling, morning walks, art, dance, and connection to keep yourself grounded. Personally speaking, the sun always returns; Mother nature validates this every day.

Conflicts and trauma are sometimes obvious and sometimes not and make their presence known to us as dis-ease and imbalance in our lives; within our body.   Weight issues or acne are obvious to most, but what are the traumas, loyalties and imbalances locked away in diabetes, heart disease, cancer, or behind simple allergies and minor illnesses given labels or the diagnosis's we receive at the doctor's office? Do you want healing or just relief?

The premise is easy.  Disease and sicknesses are "nothing more" than emotional conflict(s) or trauma, --lessons to learn (that may be passed down from our ancestors) running in an "invisible" field of energy unknown or unrealized to us until it emerges as our brain's (the ultimate computer) solution for the disturbance deep within our psyche. More simply, the first law of Biological Decoding states: "Every pain or disease originates from a conflict. The conflict is an unexpected, highly acute, and isolating shock that occurs simultaneously in the PSYCHE, the BRAIN,
and part of the BODY that corresponds to the type of conflict. Discovering the conflict aids the brain in sending messages to repair the body".

If we are human, we all have unresolved emotional conflicts.  Heal them for yourselves--heal them for your kids and break the pattern.  Biological Decoding goes hand-in-hand with our allopathic medicine today that addresses the mechanical aspects of our disease.

How can I help you today?

The Biology of Decoding is an amazing tool to assist in the discovery of the root cause of dis-ease.  This discovery and decoding opens the door to healing, deepens spiritual understanding and releases limiting beliefs and patterns.

"If the mind doth bend, disease can end."

FOOD FOCUS: Amazing Fresh Summer Mango

"The king of the fruits," mango fruit is one of the most popular, nutritionally rich fruits with unique flavor, fragrance, taste, and heath promoting qualities, making it numero-uno among new functional foods, often labeled as "super fruits."

According to Rebecca Wood in her book, the New Whole Foods Encyclopedia, mango's are the most widely  consumed fruit in the world.  And, this native to India, accounts for more than 50% of the world's trade in tropical fruits.

Delectable-sweet & juicy Mango

Medicinal Benefits - Mango's thermal property is cooling, and a yin tonic that travels the lung, stomach and spleen meridians.  It helps circulate chi, disperse water, clear heat and quench thirst.  Mango's are a superior source of vitamin C, polyphenols and carotenoids and provides a good source for vitamin B 6, potassium and antioxidants.  The downside is it is moderately high in calories. This fruit is a real summer treat!

Recipe of the Month: Mango Salsa

This recipe comes from an old cookbook that my neighbor gave me months ago, called Miami Spice.  I have been
enjoying the beautiful, sweet ripe mangos from Marion and Ed's tree next door.  I usually just stand at the kitchen sink and enjoy the juicy summer fruit--however,  I thought it might be fun to try something new and something I could serve with grilled meat or fish.  This salsa could also be served as a side dish.

Freshly picked Mangos

        Ingredients:

2 cups diced ripe mangos
1 cucumber, peeled, seeded and diced
1/2 poblano chili, seeded and finely diced
1 jalapeno chili seeded and minced
teaspoons fresh minced ginger
1/4 cup chopped fresh mint or cilantro leaves
1 tablespoon packed light brown sugar, or to taste
1/4 cup lime juice
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Directions:

Combine all of the ingredients in a mixing bowl, and gently toss.  Correct the seasonings, adding salt, lime juice or sugar to taste.  The salsa should be a little sweet and a little sour.  Mango salsa tastes best served a couple of hours after making.
Refrigerate, covered, until serving.

Cathy's note:  If you have never worked with Jalapeño peppers, make sure you slip a small baggie or plastic glove.  Do not touch your eyes, as the oil from the seeds with cause burning.  If you don't have access to good mangos--but have peaches, they make a  great substitute.

  Enjoy!
