SEC's System Operations Center Team is

Here For You

SEC's System Operations Center Team (SOC) provides continual coverage 24 hours a day, seven days of the week for SEC members and employees. The team’s diligent work ensures quick response to member outages, safety issues and after-hours concerns.

The primary purpose of SOC is to monitor for outages and coordinate outage restoration for our members by detecting, locating and isolating the outage. The SOC Team utilizes a two-way communication system that allows operators to communicate with meters placed throughout our system, in addition to member call-ins, which can provide information about the outage.

The SOC Team coordinates with SEC lineworkers, apparatus staff and, if needed, contract crews, to make needed repairs and restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

Meet the team behind the scenes! We appreciate these unsung heroes, as they work day and night to monitor the system and manage outage restoration.

Aerial Trimming Aids in System Reliability

Power line maintenance, including vegetation management, is a priority of SEC in order to provide safe and reliable power to members. Aerial trimming, which utilizes helicopters with an extremely powerful aerial saw, is one of SEC’s most efficient systems for keeping rights-of-way clear of encroaching vegetation.

Currently, SEC is conducting aerial trimming in Powhatan. If you are in that area, you just might see the flying chainsaw this season!

SAFETY TIP:

Stay Away from Downed Power Lines

When there is an accident involving downed power lines or other related equipment, Safe Electricity offers these safety tips:

• Call 9-1-1 and report that a downed line or other electrical equipment is involved.

• Do not get out of the vehicle until electric utility workers say it is safe to exit.

• Warn those involved in the accident to stay put and alert others who might approach to stay back.

• Exiting the vehicle is a last resort and should only be attempted if the car is on fire or giving off smoke. If this is the case, exit the vehicle by crossing your arms and jumping from the vehicle without touching it.
