Post U.S. Election
The US election is now behind us, and the most common question I received over the past 3 weeks is how to handle the U.S. Election, and it's effect on the portfolio. Interestingly, most elections have had little effect beyond the more common short-term worry before, and just after, usually reacting to polls, and media coverage.
The average drop in markets after an election is 1.8%
The more pressing issue is how do we continue to generate growth in a slow-growing world, with negative interest rates throughout 40% of the developed world. That challenge is one that is important to factor into portfolio construction.

The 2 other areas I keep getting asked about are GOLD, (precious metals) and Income Alternatives such as Infrastructure.
Curious about how they affect your portfolio?
Both areas can add diversification that will help to reduce the risk of the overall portfolio. However, Gold, or precious metals by themselves usually add more volatility. They have performed well in the past 12 months, but this area has been a rocky road for the past 4 years. To determine if it's right for your portfolio, review if you can truly handle the risk (and ups and downs) that are usually associated with this area.

Making a difference with Charitable Donations
Every year I donate to charities. I donate both time and money, and it's an important part of my contribution to my community, and my country. It's also a great way to meet some incredible people.
As many of my clients feel very passionate about giving back, I wanted to remind each of you that it's so easy to give, and it's a great way to reduce your taxable income. If you donate a non-registered investment, you can get the charitable tax credit, but also have the capital gain waived completely. Now that's a win-win in my books. Let us help you find a way to give back.
Mackenzie Charitable Foundation is celebrating its 10 year anniversary. It provides an option to Canadians set up their own Foundation with as little as $25,000 you can make a difference for a lifetime.

A Special Thank You
I would like to thank the Minister of Status of Women on being a recipient at this years
Gathering of Outstanding Women ceremony. This special recognition is a great honor and I am grateful to be a recipient of a certification that is given to committed, dedicated and leaders in the community.
I also would like to congratulate all the other recipients as well for their ongoing involvement and contribution to the community. Honored to be in the same company of all these esteemed women.
Thank you to all who participated, the volunteers who worked tireless hours helping the event come together, the attendees who filled the room to the brim this year, the amazing sponsors who come back each year and help contribute to Mackenzie Health Foundation.
In our 8th year, we are excited to share that over $45,000 was raised in support of our local hospital. All funds are being directed to the Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault program at Mackenzie Health Foundation. To date, we have now raised over $245,000 for the hospital.
Thank you again for your support.
If you would like to contribute but couldn't make it, please feel free to do so now, and go to our
