Dear Friends of Kindness Grows Here,

As many of you know, over the last several months, I took a step back from Kindness Grows Here as my family navigated two major life events: an unexpected move due to school redistricting, and the illness and death of my dear brother, John.

I am immensely grateful for the way our current board members stepped up to cover for me during this difficult time. Their support allowed me to focus fully on my family when they needed me most. They proved that the kindness this organization champions isn't just something we preach—it is something we truly live out for one another.

When I initially stepped away, it was with every intention of returning to my full role as founder and president. However, this period of reflection made me realize just how much stress managing KGH was adding to my daily life. Even when active tasks were quiet, the weight of the responsibility was always there, impacting my most important roles: Mom and Wife.

Please don’t get me wrong: founding and running Kindness Grows Here is one of the best things I have ever done. It has enabled me to play a small part in making an incredible impact on my community and across the country and world, and I have absolutely no regrets! Leading this organization for the past 10 years has brought wonderful people and experiences into my life and my children’s lives. It allowed me to model for my kids exactly how to cultivate kindness and make a real difference. It showed them that when you see a problem in the world, you don’t just sit back and worry—you roll up your sleeves and do something about it.

But at this phase of life, with four children at ages where everything moves at lightning speed, I have made the difficult decision to step away completely from my official role with KGH.

This was not an easy choice. I never wanted anyone on the board to feel obligated to keep the wheels turning in my absence, and I held no expectation that anyone would carry the torch out of a sense of duty.

And yet, I am thrilled to share that the current board has chosen to keep KGH going. They will keep our Kid Kindness Grant program thriving, continuing to impact dozens of children directly, and rippling out to thousands more through those children’s kindness initiatives. Watching the seeds we planted continue to bloom is the greatest gift. I am so excited to see what Helen, Felicity, Sherry, Fish, and Sara will achieve, with the wonderful support of Ashlie, Ray, Shauna, and our grant coordinator, Allison.

Because transitioning 10 years of knowledge doesn't happen overnight, I will remain available to the Board of KGH for questions and consultation in the role of “President Emeritus.” So, while my day to day involvement will be ending, I will be available as needed. And I will always be Kindness Grows Here’s loudest cheerleader.

How You Can Help Continue the Legacy?

If you have supported Kindness Grows Here in the past—whether with your time or a financial contribution—please continue to stand by this wonderful organization. They need you now more than ever.

We are a completely volunteer-run organization, and your generosity is what allows KGH to keep making an impact. As any nonprofit leader knows, fundraising is always the heaviest lift. If each person on our mailing list committed to donating just $50 a year, KGH would be secure for years to come.
