Good afternoon

Changes are coming to Route 37 in Cranston this weekend. We’re setting up a new traffic pattern and opening a new ramp that will take traffic over I-295 North so drivers will enter on the right-hand side instead of the left-hand side. This more conventional design will improve safety and reduce crashes. Learn more here.

Route 37 Improvements, Cranston/Warwick/Johnston

This weekend we’re delivering a new ramp and traffic pattern for the Route 37 exits. From Friday night, July 25 at 8 p.m. through Monday morning, July 28 at 5 a.m., we need to close the ramp from Route 37 East to I-295 North and the left lane along I-295 North. On Friday-Sunday nights, July 25-27, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., we’ll close the left lane along I-295 South. While the ramp is closed, we’re using the same detour as in past operations, with motorists remaining on Route 37 East to Route 2, allowing them to then reverse direction onto Route 37 West and back to I-295 North.

Upon completion of our work on Monday morning, traffic from Route 37 East to I-295 North will now merge onto I-295 North in the right lane. We’re also creating a new service road for the exit ramps from I-295 North to Routes 37 East and West. I-295 motorists will need to take the service road to access Exit 3A and 3B for Route 37 East or Route 37 West.

During the week, motorists can expect alternating lane closures for bridge and road construction on I-295 North in the vicinity of Route 37, Monday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Overhead sign installation is also prompting short duration rolling closures on I-295 North at Exit 3A (Route 37 East) on Monday night, and rolling and right lane closures on Route 37 East and West, from I-295 South to Route 2 (Reservoir Avenue), Tuesday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
