Our Mission: To encourage and enrich the lives of families and individuals living in rural poverty by establishing meaningful relationships, promoting education, and offering material aid.

A Message from the Director

Dear Friends,

This February brings a celebration of love and an opportunity to express how truly humbled we are by those who generously support the mission of the Box Project. Reflecting on the legacy of St. Valentine, known for his compassion and sacrifice, as a timeless inspiration for our modern-day celebration of love and giving. His story, rooted in philanthropy and care for others, reminds us of the powerful impact that generosity can have on the community of people we serve. During this season of LOVE, let's consider how this day has grown into a broader celebration to include the love shared through philanthropic acts.

Philanthropy is defined as “love of humankind”. Charity is defined as “selfless love.” Taking care of/Caretaking is defined as making a positive impact on another person, entity or thing, "a philanthropic and charitable activity".

By definition, philanthropy is grounded in love, with that in mind it seems appropriate that we strive to understand and express compassion for those who are suffering. The Box Project is rooted in a system that promotes joy, happiness and authentic expression of love and understanding through meaningful relationships. As a "Broker of Love", it is my passion to facilitate these genuine connections between "sister families". This "season of love" encourages us not only to take a moment to express love to those close to us but to recognize and appreciate the love extended through the acts of kindness of our donors and family sponsors. Without the "selfless love" of Box Project supporters, we can not continue our mission of meaningful, systemic change in the lives of those living in rural poverty in the Mississippi Delta.

In 2024, we invite you to join us on this journey of compassion and understanding. Together we can continue to build on the mission of the Box Project, a system built on the theory of transformational love.

Wishing you a love-filled and philanthropic day!

In service,

Kara Dulaney, Director

Winter Holiday Family Sponsor Program Spreads Joy Across the Mississippi Delta

by Ameliea R. Dulaney

In the spirit of giving and spreading holiday cheer, The Box Project's Annual Winter Holiday Sponsor Program achieved remarkable success this festive season, leaving a trail of warmth and gratitude throughout the Mississippi Delta. The program, designed to connect sponsors with needy families, delivered not just holiday boxes but moments of joy and human connection.

The magic unfolded as sponsors dedicated time and effort to handpick gifts tailored to the needs and wishes of each recipient. Wrapping these thoughtful presents added a personal touch, making the exchange more than just a material transaction. For many families in the Mississippi Delta, these gifts became symbols of hope, kindness, and the warmth of community support. For most recipient families, the gifts received in our Winter Holiday Boxes are often the only gifts they receive.

The Box Project team bore witness to an outpouring of love and generosity from sponsors and immeasurable gratefulness from recipient families while delivering Holiday Boxes across the Delta. The success of this program is a testament to the incredible impact that collective acts of kindness can have on communities. The Box Project extends heartfelt gratitude to all the sponsors, donors, and team members who made this initiative possible. Their commitment to making a difference brightened the holiday season for many families, exemplifying the true spirit of giving.
