Friends of GVCM,
Summer has begun, and the heat of the Caribbean sun spares no king. Our beautiful blue skies disappear once in a while as the assemblage of dark clouds announcing the almost daily rain fall becomes part of our expectations. The return of the green vegetation inspires one's eye to keep gazing into the faithfulness of God who makes all things new. All of this also reminds us that we are at the end of the school year, and our school children are in their final weeks of the academic year. Throughout the year we have deployed a lot of resources and efforts that have made it possible for us to witness the difference God is using us to make all over Haiti through GVCM.
We continue to bend the repetitious history of pain and desperation in many Haitian villages as we labor, out of love, to bring the message of hope day after day. For the past year we have had to admit many more children at the orphanage as other institutions and the government kept on bringing them to us. The socio-emotional issues along with the resources to meet their physical and spiritual needs have also intensified.
We have been paying close attention to those needs and resorted to getting more help. But more help also means a heavier financial load for GVCM. You have been faithfully sharing your slices of bread with our orphan children for a long time and your financial contributions are empowering us to make sound decisions for their future. Increasing the staff for better supervision, bringing in experts to attend to their various needs, providing more nutritious rations, employing more qualified teachers will all contribute to a smarter result of the investment you have been making into their future.
Please meet some of the people Who recently joined our staff in Haiti:
Pastor Davidson Dumesle has been with GVCM for three months now as the Ledier church and orphanage pastor. He is in charge of collecting reports from the other churches and creating the narratives that are part of the main report we submit to the Ministry of "Cults" (the government branch responsible for regulating religious activities in Haiti). He attends to the spiritual needs of the children at the orphanage, and works closely with me to evaluate the results of spiritual activities and plan strategically for a stronger and more impactful gospel presentation in Haiti. Pastor Dumesle lives in the town of Mirebalais now, but soon, will be moving on campus.
Norma Alexandre is our social worker who is doing a phenomenal job with the children. During the three months she has been with us, she has already evaluated the social skills for all the children except the babies. She has found ways to brings smiles on the faces of many of them as she herself becomes a child to reach and touch them at their level. She is doing what Jesus would be doing. We are so blessed to have Norma as a catalyst for emotional renaissance in the persona of each child.
Brother Junior Gauchier is our new accountant who has lifted the burden that Jude and Markes were carrying ever since Pastor Charles who came to the US to see his family and died. We are so happy to have in place someone

Junior Gaichier, our new accountant |
who will account for every penny you have blessed GVCM with in Haiti. We were glad to have passed the audit of the Government's Finance Ministry, and to know that GVCM is one of the Organizations in Haiti that are in good standing with laws and regulations of the country. Junior has been working well with our outstanding CPA, Paul Resil from Boston, and our amazing Administrative Assistant, Stephanie Stumbaugh. They work well together to create the best accounting system for GVCM.
Tatiana Pierre Therosme is our Psychologist who has the reputation as one who has accomplished wonders with psychologically distressed children. Many of our kids come from degrading streams of life with questionable behavior to prove it. We have taken our responsibility seriously to make sure those scars can be erased and mental stability reestablished. As we provide the spiritual cure we are hoping that the addition of Tatiana to our staff will increase our chance toward psychological stability.
Frantz Lucien is our Administrative Assistant in Haiti who has already shielded me from a lot of the load that I have been carrying for a long time. Frantz is the type of guy who values principles. At the orphanage the kids call him "Mr. Principle". Frantz believes in Excellency and his actions have mirrored his belief. Frantz also mentors our older boys living in the Joshua building with a great commend of respect and structure. He is a great project manager and activity coordinator. We are very blessed to have Frantz managing our staff for us.
We have recently interviewed an educator from Cap Haitian to become the administrative Nannie who will train our nannies and coordinate the service and supervision they provide for our children. She will be the communicative link between the nannies, the social worker, the pastor, and the psychologist to whom she will communicate her observatory reports about every child in order for proper curing action to be taken.
Samuel Evans is a young man who was born in Haiti, but a good American family decided to offer him a better future through adoption. He was brought to the US when he was 8. But his desire to help his native country never faded.
 |
Samuel is back to his homeland to serve |
He returned to Haiti a month ago working with GVCM as a young evangelist and as one whowill help with coordinating our sponsorship program. His ability to communicate in Creole and English is a big asset for GVCM. Samuel is getting ready to conduct small group bible studies with
the older boys at the orphanage.
We have been blessed with Zach and Abbie Bailey as interns from Boise Bible College this summer. Zach is doing a good job teaching the older orphans some commuter skills, and Abbie is aggressively teaching them English.

Our interns Zach and Abbie at the orphanage |
This is something we have wanted to see happen for a long time. We thank the Lord for the Baileys and Boise Bible College.
We also have been blessed with the Stark family From California. They will be with us for three months. Chris Stark is a wonderful man of God who uses his skills to fix anything. He has already gotten many of our utility gears working like new. We appreciate him taking his family to come and live harmoniously among us. It is absolutely beautiful to see Haitians and Americans respectfully working together, as brothers and sisters, for the advancement of the Lord's kingdom
So as you can see, many small things are being done out of great love and for a greater purpose. we are reshaping history for many in Haiti, but this is the time when we need you the most. The load seems heavier but your help will make it much lighter. Every time you empower GVCM to take progressive actions such as those, you send a ripple of hope to those children, those pastors, those teachers, those widows who desperately need a hand up. Together we continue to sweep down those strong walls of superstition and poverty, as we improve the lot of many and play the strings of faith that vibrate through eternity.
Robert Kennedy said that the purpose of life is to contribute in some ways to making things better. Dear friends, you have made many things better on this small island.
Thank you so much for letting the Lord use you with one contribution at a time to help create the everlasting change we are witnessing.

New church planted by Linda Burton |
Recently, Linda Burton accompanied my wife, Samathe to a trip in Haiti. They had many inspirational meetings with the ladies from the church where they talked about things I will never be able to tell you. But it must have been powerful as they reported about a lady who was under some demonic influence got freed by the power of the Holy Spirit during one of the meetings. Linda

Ladies meeting with Samathe and Linda |
is the kind that is not bashful about preaching the gospel. She went to a site in the back bushes of the orphanage under a big tree, and 65 people gathered around her to hear the gospel. She fell I love with the people and kept going back to teach them. Before she left Haiti a church was planted there. Now we are looking for partners who would be willing to help purchase a parcel of land to build a worship place for them.
Let me invite you to meet Linda as she tells you about her experience at the orphanage, where she stayed.
The daily life of the children at the orphanage,
by Linda Burton.
Their day start around 5:30 in the morning.
As they get up they have devotions. They prepare for school around 8 o'clock. School begins with a flag ceremony led by their principal Marc Liberal. A Pledge of Allegiance which the children have memorized is recited, and then they are dismissed to their classes. The younger children get out around noon after they've all been fed lunch. The older children stay until around 2:30. The older children are tutored to keep up with their schoolwork while the little ones have some free time. Their big meal comes around 3 o'clock generally consist of some rice and beans with quite big portions because they don't eat again until the next day.

Tyson Ray and team providing new shoes for children |
We have realized the need for a mentoring program for the older children at the orphanage. We are beginning this program shortly as we know that the word of God has to become a part of the children's lives not just a book to read. We have seen success in other children that went through such a program as they develop an intimate, personal walk with God. We do not just want to clothe and feed children. We want to train them in righteousness. We, at GVCM take seriously the job given to us by the Lord of raising these children and teaching them about their Savior. Please pray for us as this program will be initiated soon. When homework is done, the children have some spare time to play or to finish their chores. The girls go to help in the kitchen and even on the weekends the girls are responsible for cooking for the rest of the orphans as the cooking staff has the days off. We are very proud of the girls as they are doing a great job of feeding everyone. The boys are busy cleaning up around the orphanage and playing soccer if they can. Soccer balls are always needed if you come. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday is church and prayer meeting and all the children attend. Friday night service doesn't end until around midnight in which the children enjoy singing and dancing and praising the Lord. it's a beautiful site and one of my favorite times as I stayed in Haiti recently for a month attending all the services. After everything is done in the evening around 8:30, the children have devotions with Pastor Yves. They sing, they pray, and then they go off to sleep. And this is a typical day at the orphanage.
Please keep our children in prayer as it is our desire to continue to see them growing in The Lord. The children always need clothes, and the need of shoes is almost impossible to keep up with as they break so easily in the rough terrain. Food prices have tripled in Haiti and that need is also very great. Please continue to ask the Lord to multiply funds for food.
Some of the children such as Denise Denise have specific prayer needs. Denise had very troubled life before she came to the orphanage. Please continue praying for her. She's just a little girl that needs much healing. As God brings the names of the children or their faces to your mind please pray. We know that prayers change things, open doors, move mountains and we're counting on your prayers. Pray for wisdom for Pastor Yves, the teachers, and the nannies. It takes all the helpers and a village to raise 112 children.
Thank you again for your prayers they are much appreciated.
