Volunteers needed for January 23/24  (in Stevens Point)
     We have all heard the phrase REDUCE  REUSE  RECYCLE, here is an opportunity to help make that happen.   McDonald's has kindly offered to re-purpose their restaurant furniture for public hospitals and Learning Centers in Nicaragua.  Volunteers are needed to load furniture in Plover and unload at storage facility in Stevens Point. Ardith McDowell
It is with a sad heart that we report the death of long-time friend and member of WAHCE, Ardith McDowell.  Ardith passed away in Madison on December 30th at the age of 98.
 
Ardith served for 9 years as ACWW Letter Friend Coordinator, matching 648 women from around the world.  Many of these letter friends remained friends for years.
Ardith was also active with the Wisconsin Nicaragua Partners.  In fact, she initiated the ongoing partnership between W/NP and WAHCE.  Many years ago the Ardith McDowell scholarship was made available for WAHCE members to travel to WAHCE supported international projects, and is still available for members to apply for.   Ardith was very active in Marquette County and lived in her rural Montello home until the age of 90.   A memorial service was held for Ardith on Monday, January 16th at the Chapel of Oakwood Village where she resided until her death.   Click here for obituary
 
The 2017 Learning Center Trek workshops will be dedicated to Ardith and her efforts that have helped make the Learning Centers in Nicaragua what they are today. 
2017 Martin Eyeglass Distribution
Each year the Wisconsin Lions Camp in Rosholt, WI supplies refurbished eyeglasses to W/NP and the WI Lions for distribution in Nicaragua. Nearly 10,000 people are evaluated and fitted with eyeglasses annually by the Martin Eyeglass Project and the WI Lions Mission.
This year the Martin Project is traveling to rural communities in the Esteli and Jinotega areas of Nicaragua.  Click here for photos
 
Significant planning and resources from a vast group of participants, make clear sight and improved vision a reality for many who otherwise may have no other options. This project is made possible by Lions International. There are approximately 20 Lions centers worldwide that coordinate, sort, clean, categorize, box and label donated eyeglasses to prepare for distribution to developing countries such as Nicaragua. Click here to see the process from donation to distribution
