About the Workshop Designer, Instructor

Janet M. Ruck, M.A., M.B.A.

Career Coach

Janet Ruck is a career coach, trainer and writer with many years of experience working with the federal government as well as in private practice. She has been a resident of the Village of Oakland Mills since 1989. Her two sons graduated from Oakland Mills High School.

Janet holds a certification as a Job and Career Transition Coach, and Master's degrees in clinical psychology and business administration. Janet retired from the Department of Health and Human Services as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service with a rank of Captain (0-6).

She believes that all individuals can find work that fits their skills, talents, passions and personalities. This philosophy characterized her work throughout her federal career and is the hallmark of the work she has pursued since leaving federal service. Janet continues to assist individuals to identify work that is meaningful and satisfying, while supporting them as they develop the tools to be successful.

Janet is especially interested in assisting "seasoned workers" (age 50+) in identifying and showcasing their talents and skills, and increasing their marketability in the workplace.

As a lifelong journaler, she knows the power of expressive writing. She enjoys laughing and injects humor into situations when possible and appropriate. Her life philosophy is embodied in the quote by the late humorist Erma Bombeck: "When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say 'I used everything you gave me.'"
