Christmas Production
Greetings Eagles!

I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving Holiday!! November was a wonderful month for our scholars, teachers, and parents. Our character trait of the month was Self Discipline and our Habit being practiced was “Begin with the End in Mind.” We celebrated Anti-Bullying week, with our scholars dressing to daily themes, to show their support: We Say No to Bullying!
 
December is going to be a great month for The Rhodes School for the Performing Arts! We have several huge events planned for our Channelview community. I can’t wait to experience our infamous Christmas Production. This year, our 3rd-5th scholars will be part of “The Lion King Jr.” production on December 12 th at the Humble Civic Center. I promise it will be a treat. We will also host our Channelview Campus Christmas program for our Pre-K-2 nd scholars, as we continue the traditions and wonderful opportunities to showcase our talented scholars.
 
We continue to work toward building literacy in all academic areas with our scholars. I am hopeful that all our families will help to support our efforts in improving the reading and writing skills of our scholars. Scholars who read thirty-minutes each day and can retell what they’ve read, will show more growth than their peers who do not read thirty minutes each day. This independent reading is vital for the development of reading skills. 

School attendance matters! In an effort to promote perfect attendance, we have a building competition going. The first class to spell out “PERFECT ATTENDANCE” wins a party. Please congratulate Mrs. Angela Gittens’ homeroom class for winning the competition 2 times-back to back! They celebrated with a pizza party. All scholars with perfect attendance for the semester will be invited to the “Perfect Attendance Sock Hop”.

Before we know it, the holiday break in December will be upon us. I wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season. Have a great December!

SWAG Boys
Our Steppers Working to Achieve Greatness (SWAG BOYS) have been doing awesome things in the community. They attended an Anti-Bullying Rally and the Black Male Summit. I want to give a shout out to one of our very own parent authors, Sonia Parker, author of “Stranger Danger” along with one of Houston’s favorite rappers, Paul Wall, for working with our SWAG Boys at these outings. They helped to get the SWAG Boys a Certificate of Congressional Recognition from the Constituents of the Eighteenth Congressional District signed by Sheila Jackson Lee, member of Congress. We are grateful for Ms. Parker’s help.

Science Fair
Our Science Fair was a huge success. Shout out to Ms. Vallot for making everything special. Our 2019 Science Fair winners were:

Spelling Bee
I was very proud of our scholars who won the school Spelling Bee. Kobe Charles, Alexander Rodriguez, Celaya Wright, Scarlett Mares, and Jaylin Henry. They will be moving on to the RSPA District Spelling Bee.

T-shirt sales are Wednesday mornings from 7:10 AM to 7:45 AM and Friday mornings 7:10 AM to 7:45 AM and Friday afternoons 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Spirit T-shirts are $12. Credit Card only

Lunch Applications
All students must have a lunch application on file. To complete the lunch application please visit myschoolapps.com. Students with insufficient lunch funds will receive and alternative meal.

  Student Activity Fees
The final fee is due Friday, January 24, 2020. Smaller installments can be made any day between due dates. See below for instructions on how to make your fee payments.

Please follow the directions for My School Bucks;
  • Visit www.myschoolbucks.com.
  • Under the meal account tab, add new student.
  • Once student is added, go to the top right hand corner and select school store.
  • Browse all items
  • Then select Annual Fees to make payments

Arrival
The building is open to our scholars at 7:10 AM. Please make sure there is a teacher present to receive your scholar before you drive away. After 7:45 you must park and walk your scholar in. Students are late at 7:50 AM. Parents must park and sign scholars in at the front office and scholars will receive a tardy slip. Drop off at the front building is reserved for Pre-K and Crayon Club only.

Dismissal
We have worked very hard on our dismissal process. Pre K will dismiss from the front where Crayon Club resides. Regular car riders will be dismissed from the back. Every student that rides the bus has been color coded according to the route they ride. If your scholar rides the shuttle to the Northshore Campus, please remember that is a bus stop. You MUST be there on time at 3:45 to pick up your child. Any child 1st grade or below still remaining by 4:00 will be taken back to Channelview to the Crayon Club for a drop in fee of $25.00. Please pick up by 1:20 on (early dismissal) Friday’s. At 1:30, your child will be taken back to the CV campus.
 
Dress Code
Scholars should always come to school in dress code. Oxford shirts are the ONLY shirts allowed. Starting October 1st, scholars will be asked to return home if they are not in dress code. Spirit or college shirts are allowed on Fridays. We will announce any special dress days ahead of time so your scholars can dress to impress.

Campus Visitors
All visitors must sign-in in the front office before being allowed into the hallways and cafeteria.  Please refrain from picking your scholars up early. They are missing instructional time.
