Dear RSPA Eagles,
We are already in the third quarter of the school year. We hope you are excited about the progress your child has made thus far. Our staff members are focused and committed to providing all students with a rigorous instructional program. Students are continuing to receive challenging learning opportunities on a daily basis, whether it is through accelerated instruction or additional support and extra practice. All classrooms have moved toward mandatory small group lessons where scholars will receive individual time with their teacher to maximize their growth in all areas. Our Reading classrooms are all moving toward Guided Reading to help our scholars to grow faster and read better. Please call your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
Both our administration and faculty value the important contributions our families make towards their scholar’s success in school. There is no question that success at school starts at home. Families are the most significant influence in a scholar’s life. Families model both spoken and silent language in front of their scholars. One of the great hallmarks of a great school is the partnership between the school and families, regardless of the challenges, who work together for the best interest of our scholars.
In January, we celebrated our scholars who made the “All A Honor Roll” by having Breakfast with the Principal. The scholars had a fun cereal bar where they made their own tasty creations. They ate, danced, and received certificates to celebrate their accomplishments. We also celebrated our scholars with a Perfect Attendance with a Sock Hop. They had popcorn, juice, and showed us their fabulous dance moves. We want to continue to reward and motivate our scholars to come to school and work hard.
We have many exciting events taking place during the month of February. We will celebrate Black History Month in February. Students will learn the foundation of African American culture from times of slavery through the turbulent days of forced racial segregation. We will recognize the central role of African Americans in American History like Harriet Tubman, Dr. Ralph J. Bunche, Barack Obama, Charles Drew, Carter G. Woodson, W.E. B. Du Bois, Marcus Garvey, Nat Turner, Garrett Morgan, Booker T. Washington, Ida B. Wells, Phyllis Wheatley, Ronald McNair, Madame C.J. Walker, Mae Jemison, Shirley Caesar, Michelle Obama, and many more.
The event I’m most excited about is our 2nd Annual “Daddy and Daughter Dance”. The theme is Bow Ties and Tutus. Our young ladies can come dressed to impress or in their tutu’s. It’s up to you. I know they will never forget this special day with their male role model. Tickets are $20.00 per couple/ $10.00 for extra persons. The date is Friday, February 7, 2020. Don’t miss it!
Perseverance was our character trait in January. I have tried to remain transparent with all stakeholders this year. I will be having surgery on February 24th and be out for a short time. All stakeholders keep me in your prayers. A plan is being put into place so my vow to provide our families with excellent customer service and professionalism will remain in place. Thank you for your continued support! We are Crew…. And not Passengers!
