Join us for A Healthy Lent

“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.”  (I Corinthians 12:12)

Recognizing the variety of ways in which our relationship with God can be strengthened and renewed, we embark on a 2020 Lenten program offering diverse and multilayered approaches to spiritual growth. This year’s parish path through Lent is meant to offer many choices. Please give prayerful consideration to those select options most likely to benefit you; chose 1 or 2 or 3 offerings and begin now to incorporate them into your own personal faith journey.

Women's Lenten retreat at Chanco on the James

It has been said that our faith is a single day’s journey from dying to rising. Lent is a natural time to take a moral inventory and to examine this rhythm of darkness and light. Join women from around the Diocese as we move from gravity to grace and explore the “double journey” of light and darkness inherent in a life of faith. Join us for the Women’s Lenten Retreat “Gravity and Grace: Exploring Themes of Darkness and Light in our Lenten Journeys” being held at Chanco on the James, March 6-7. Visit Chanco's website  www.chanco.org for more information and for registration.
ESC History Tour this Sunday

This month, our ESC History Tour will begin with a discussion about tobacco's relationship to Colonial Anglican Churches. Don't miss this fascinating look into our past! Meet in the Narthex immediately after the 10:15 service.
I'm getting baptized - in prison
By Lee Davis

Each of us who have served on a KAIROS team have been asked at one time or another why we do it. It takes a lot of time and effort. It is intense and for new team members it can be intimidating, even scary.

I received this letter today, it answers the question better than I ever could.

Dear Lee,

Hello, God bless you! I hope this finds you and the entire KAIROS team doing well. I already know that you all are in good spirits so no need to include that in the saying LOL. J How are you?

Things in here are going well. The Prison Fellowship is going GREAT. It is a wonderful thing they are doing in here. God is working in that room let me tell you! Knowing you I believe you would thoroughly enjoy participating in something like that.

I wanted to say that I really enjoyed sitting at the table with you, myself, Melvin, and Joe during this past Two Day retreat. I always enjoy our conversations. The Lord has touched my heart since then. I wanted to share with you that I will be getting baptized on Feb. 23 rd . The KAIROS team and the experience has led me back on my path of my walk with Jesus Christ. I thank the Lord for the experience and reaching me through you guys. Thank you. I have been away from the church for a long time but I am ready to come back!!!

Which you asked if I would like some homework and Lee... I’m ready! I need a little help with studying scripture so I’m asking for some homework!! I look forward to studying with you.

Well my friend TC [take care] of yourself and again it was a pleasure sitting at the table with you. Tell everyone I said hello and I keep you all in my prayers. God Bless You!

Sincerely
DS

Just imagine being used like that. You don’t have to be a Bible scholar, we ask our guests to not even bring theirs if they have one. You don’t have to be a preacher or teacher either; our motto is simply Listen, Listen, Love, Love. If you have a caring heart and a desire to share some of the blessing you have been gifted with, your presence is enough. You qualify. Join us for KAIROS 18 in Sussex II State Prison. Watch the Holy Spirit in action. See any member of the KAIROS team – we all wear green name tags.
Thank you to blood donors - you saved 57 lives!

Thank you so much for all your support for the blood drive on Feb. 20. We ended collecting 19 productive pints; saving over 57 lives!

"We thank you so much for our partnership, and all your hard work," wrote Kelsey Rosencrans of the American Red Cross. "We could have not done this without you all  and I'm so lucky to work with such passionate sponsors during this  CRITICAL NEED ."

The next blood drive will be in May - watch the Chapel Chimes for details and plan to be a life saver!
Can you arrange flowers?

If you would like to help the Flower Guild arrange flowers for the altar, please contact Audra Byrn at 757-408-6916 as soon as possible. It would involve helping every six weeks and training is provided. Please join us!
Join the exciting ministry of Sound!

Ever dreamed of being the person at the soundboard during a recording session? Ever wonder how the sound engineer knows what lever to push and how to capture the best sounds? Here's your chance to find out - and help your parish as well!

We need volunteers to learn our very simple sound system. We need a roster of folks, young, old, and in between, who can take one Sunday a month (or less frequently) to sit behind the sound board that controls the microphones at the pulpit, prayer desk and those worn by the clergy. It doesn't take much attention sot hat you can still follow the service and participate in a very meaningful way.

If you are willing to enter this exciting ministry, call Bruce Gallup or Steve Shirley (or catch them in church on Sunday morning) and let them know.

Parish Book Store: Gifts of the Dark Wood

Gifts of the Dark Wood: Seven Blessings for the Soulful Skeptics (and Other Wanderers) is the topic of Fr. Cameron’s Lenten discussion at 5:30 p.m. each Sunday in Lent. The “dark wood” is generally a place to fear and avoid, but it is also “the surest place to meet God.” Those feelings of being lost, tempted and alone are the gifts of the Dark Wood because they cause one to probe, question and discover. Find the book, along with other Lenten resources at the Parish Book Store.

Reminder - The Parish Book Store will be closed Feb. 27-29 as it travels to be present at Diocesan Council in Williamsburg.
Linda Todd with her most recent bulletin board in the choir room. Linda's creations are always beautiful and highlight our Liturgical Seasons. Thank you Linda!
