Happy New Year!

Most gracious and merciful God, you have reconciled us to yourself through Jesus Christ your son, and called us to new life in him. Grant that we, who begin this new year in his Name, may complete it to his honor and glory; who lives and reigns, now and for ever. Amen.

Historical Tour of Eastern Shore Chapel: Colonial Virginia traditions

We continue our monthly tours of ESC on the eleventh day of Christmas featuring the celebrations of Colonial Virginians. Please join us Sunday, January 5, in the Narthex, immediately after the 10:15 service, to share Twelfth Night cake, and begin the tour.
Volunteers Needed at the Chapel Pantry!

Beginning on Saturday, January 11, the Chapel Pantry will be adding a Saturday distribution shift from 12 to 2 pm each week. We have an abundance of food coming in on Saturdays that would be best given out on the day it arrives. We will need volunteers in all areas, from guest intake, to food distribution, to outdoor help driving the golf cart and helping in the fresh produce area. We will need six people each Saturday to run the shift. If you have an interest in helping at the pantry, now is your chance to get involved! Contact Kay O’Reilly at koreilly@easternshorechapel.org or 757-323-7495 for more information.
KAIROS Prison Ministry: In thanksgiving for the past year
By Lee Davis

We have so very much to be thankful for. All the members of your prison ministry team, those who have served and those who are currently serving, look back on an amazing year filled to overflowing (see Luke 6:37-39) with blessings and blessings.

We have visited the prisoner, we have listened to them and we have loved them. They have eaten cookies, listened, smiled and sung songs of praise, many for the first time in a long, long time; if ever. We have held hands with them, prayed with them, cried and rejoiced with them. Oh my, what a blessing it has been to be there with them as they come to realize that they are loved, that our amazing Loving God loves them too and that His forgiveness is there for the asking. We have been witness to the true power of the Holy Spirit. Imagine that.

We did a new thing too this past year – we didn’t have our semi-annual cookie day! Instead we asked you, our parish friends and family, to bake and to bake and to bake. And you did. Boy did you ever. Five hundred dozen cookies came rolling in – cookies from your kitchen. Precious, delicious cookies. Prayed over cookies. Love cookies. From yo u through the barbed wire, through the sally ports, past the guards and right to the family tables and to the residents. You did, you visited the prisoner though your acts of love, you were there too. Oh my.

And you gave of your treasure too. Generously. Gifts from the Peanut Group, the Women of the Church, and from our Outreach Committee supported us. Personal donations too. Your generosity made it possible for us to provide meals for the team as we prepared to go in. You provided for a place to stay while we were there, you provided note pads and bibles and crosses for the resident graduates. They don’t get many gifts on the inside. You provided so much more.

And so it is with thanks that we close out 2019 and with faith and hope that we look forward to what God has in store for us all in 2020. Thank you all from all of us. Allison Johnson, Bob Balcom, Craig Fenton, Dickie Bosley, Rolfe White, Roger Weeden, Lee Davis, Harold Williams, John Baldwin+, and Latane Sale.

Eastern Shore Chapel Prison Ministry Prayer

Abba Father, Loving God, Our hope and our salvation
Calm us – Give us the assurance of your presence
Empty us – Make us pure vessels of your love
Polish us – Shine each of us to be a reflection of your grace
Equip us – Arm all of us Father to be your strong warriors.
Right now, today,
We are yours and we are thankful.
Amen.
From your Endowment Committee

Did you know that you can have the required minimum distribution from your IRA go directly to charity, so that it is not included in your adjusted gross income? You can donate all or part of your RMD (up to $100,000 annual limit) that you would otherwise be forced to receive and pay taxes on. See your tax advisor for details.
