Food Pantry Parade on March 7

The Pantry Parade is the service project that’s been organized by the confirmation youth. It is being held on March 7 between 2 and 4 PM. If you would like to support the chapel pantry and confirmation group through this event, please drive thru (with a mask) in front of the church and drop off canned goods (breakfast items are encouraged). The goal of our Pantry Parade is to give back and support the ministries in our church that do so much for the community. We would love to see you there and we hope you will consider donating whether it be through the Parade or at another time.

Chapel Pantry Update
By Kay O'Reilly, Chapel Pantry Coordinator

The Pantry was extra busy on Saturday distributing food to 414 families. It was a beautiful day, following a night of heavy rain. We were grateful for the good weather!

As we come close to completing a full year of drive-through Saturday distributions, it’s time to start a new chapter in our ministry of fighting hunger and food insecurity. Beginning Monday, March 8, from 12 to 2 p.m., the Chapel Pantry will begin distributing frozen, individual meals prepared by Mercy Chefs. These delicious, healthy meals will be given out at a drive-through distribution every Monday in the Pantry parking area. The meals are meant for anyone who struggles to cook or prepare meals for themselves – those recovering from illness or surgery, or anyone, whether due to age, low income, or disability, is unable to consistently have access to a hot, nutritious meal.

If you are in need, or know of anyone who is, please share this information. There are no referrals or qualification required (although this is not meant to be a takeout service for when you don’t feel like cooking!). We are offering six meals per individual, and there is no cost. Weekly visits are okay, and it is fine to have someone else pick up meals for you. The meals are prepared fresh each week by Mercy Chefs in Portsmouth. There will be two to three different meals each week. This week’s meals are Chicken Pot Pie and Swedish Meatballs.

Parish Book Store: Celebrating St. Patrick

Celebrating St. Patrick is more than creating leprechaun traps. The Parish Book Store has books for adults and children to celebrate the Patron Saint of Ireland as well as cards to remind the receiver that they are blessed.

Parish Day School: National Reading Month

During the month of March, our students are participating in National Reading Month. This Friday we will celebrate Read Across America Day with VB GrowSmart. Our students will be participating in the reading of The One Day House by Julia Durango and virtual readers that will be linked to our classrooms. Each of our students will go home with a copy of the book courtesy of VB GrowSmart and our partners with the City of Virginia Beach.

Some of our Pre-K 3s classrooms are reading the book Ten Apples on Top by Dr. Seuss. Students exploring if they can balance a bean bag on their head and participating in games and activities about balance.

We love to see our little learners celebrating literacy.
